Primary Responsibilities

This Manager is a highly visible, people-centric leader, overseeing an Optics Manufacturing Engineering team, within the Operations Engineering team of highly skilled Engineers/Technologists. This leader's focus is on Optical calibration, verification and projects that improve quality and reliability, in addition to on time delivery. This person is integral to the overall success of Operations Team and is responsible for developing and implementing solutions for manufacturing.

  • Manage daily activities of the Operations Engineering team; establish performance standards; formulate staff development plans; coach and inspire staff; provide guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegate work assignments considering employee skills and development needs
  • Drive Operational Excellence activities within the team
  • Continually enhance factory solutions focused on layout and product flow, aimed at bolstering WESCAM's manufacturing capacity and streamlining operations by optimizing processes and capital equipment usage to minimize waste.
  • Identify, validate and implement cost-saving measures to meet e3 and Perimeter Cost targets.
  • Spearhead lean strategies and oversee associated activities
  • Demonstrate proficient project management capabilities by effectively guiding direct/indirect reports and collaborating with other stakeholders within the company.
  • Lead manufacturing launch for new or revised products
  • Actively drive team participation in Engineering design reviews
  • Build and justify business cases for investments on new initiatives and other changes necessary to improve production efficiency, quality and operational safety
  • Manage budget and perform capital expenditure analysis, as required.
  • Focus on Operations Level KPIs and deliverables
  • Support all efforts and implementation of AS9100
  • Support and participate in Sector/Segment/CHQ Operations activities, as required
  • Support any other business priorities as required by Operations Engineering leadership.

Desired Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to inspire a team in a growing and changing environment
  • Must have Manufacturing Engineering experience in a high tech assembly environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of Electro-Mechanical, Electro-Optical Manufacturing and Process Engineering.
  • Excellent technical communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with related key managers and support staff
  • Ability to assign priorities to tasks/assignments so they are completed within the designated timeframe.
  • Must be well organized, goal oriented and able to give attention to detail.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience in all areas of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting and budgeting

  • AS9100 knowledge and experience an asset, but not required.

  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
