Job description

Role: Engineering Manager

Reports To: Plant Manager

Stronger Can is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong background in manufacturing/production engineering to lead and actively support our engineering team. This hands-on leader will be responsible for managing day-to-day engineering activities while directly contributing to the execution of production and process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in production processes, strong project management capabilities, and a collaborative leadership style focused on driving operational excellence, improving product quality, and supporting efficient production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers through active coaching, technical guidance, performance management, and hands-on problem solving.
  • Provide direct support to production operations by participating in process troubleshooting, equipment improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor.
  • Drive improvements in production processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, improve quality, and increase operational reliability.
  • Manage engineering projects from concept through implementation, including planning, execution, resource coordination, and progress tracking.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Production, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams to resolve operational challenges and improve plant performance.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and help implement new technologies, equipment, and manufacturing methods to optimize operations.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions related to equipment failures, process inefficiencies, and quality concerns.
  • Ensure production processes comply with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and utilize data-driven decision making to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables to ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Support equipment reliability initiatives, process control improvements, error-proofing activities, and design-for-manufacturability efforts.
  • Maintain visibility on the production floor and work closely with operations teams to ensure timely resolution of issues and sustained process performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of aluminum can manufacturing/production operations and associated engineering disciplines.
  • Minimum of 10 years of production and/or process engineering experience preferred, including prior leadership responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to lead teams while remaining technically involved in day-to-day operations and project execution.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities across a diverse technical team.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting manufacturing processes, equipment, and production-related issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Lean manufacturing experience required, including implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong project management experience, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, timelines, and execution.
  • Knowledge of process control systems, error proofing, equipment reliability, and design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect and analyze data, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively within cross-functional and matrixed organizations.
  • Proficiency with MS Project, MS Office, SAP, or similar ERP/MRP systems required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
