Position Overview

The Engineering Manager provides technical leadership across customer-facing engineering, application support, and manufacturing alignment. This role ensures that customer requirements are translated into robust, scalable designs and that engineering execution supports efficient manufacturing across PICA’s global network.

This position operates in a global context, working closely with teams and manufacturing partners across the United States, China, Southeast Asia, and Europe.

The  leads the Application Engineering team and works closely with Operations and Business Managers to ensure engineering resources are effectively deployed in support of customer-driven opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead and Manage the Application Engineering Team

  • Directly manage, mentor, and develop the Application Engineering (AE) team.
  • Set technical standards, priorities, and best practices for customer-facing engineering activities.
  • Ensure AEs provide timely, high-quality technical support to Business Managers and customers.
  • Promote consistency in DFM reviews, technical documentation, and design translation.

2. Support Customer-Driven Business Development

  • Act as a senior technical resource supporting Business Managers in opportunity qualification and development.
  • Assist in evaluating technical feasibility, risk, scalability, and manufacturing approaches.
  • Participate in key customer engagements, technical reviews, and strategic discussions as needed.
  • Ensure engineering recommendations balance technical excellence, manufacturability, and speed to market.

3. Translate Customer Requirements Into Manufacturable Solutions

  • Oversee the conversion of customer requirements into manufacturable, scalable designs.
  • Ensure alignment between design intent, engineering decisions, and production execution.
  • Support NPI, qualification builds, and production ramp-ups.
  • Guide technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis when issues arise.

4. Align Engineering With Operations

  • Work closely with Operations leadership to ensure engineering decisions are executable and scalable.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives driven by manufacturing feedback and customer requirements.
  • Ensure engineering considerations are integrated into process development, capability expansion, and partner engagement.
  • Provide technical oversight during production transitions or manufacturing strategy changes.

5. Advance Engineering Capabilities

  • Maintain and strengthen PICA’s core expertise in flexible circuits.
  • Evaluate new technologies, materials, and processes based on customer demand and strategic relevance.
  • Contribute to long-term engineering and capability planning.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a key interface between Engineering, Operations, Sales, Marketing, and Quality.
  • Communicate technical risks, constraints, and opportunities to leadership in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Support internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, or related field).
  • Extensive experience in flexible circuits, rigid-flex, PCB technology, or electronics manufacturing.
  • Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of design-for-manufacturing and global production environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer-facing experience.
