Your Role in Our Mission
  • The Engineering Intern contributes to engineering projects by completing well-defined tasks under close guidance. This role focuses on building foundational technical skills, learning core tools and processes, and developing knowledge and understanding of principles. The individual communicates progress effectively.
  • Supports engineering projects by completing well-defined, entry-level tasks under close supervision and mentorship from experienced engineers.
  • Applies classroom knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals to real-world design, testing, and development activities while learning company tools, standards, and processes.
  • Assists in identifying straightforward technical issues and participates in problem-solving discussions, proposing ideas and solutions with guidance.
  • Communicates task progress, questions, and learnings clearly and professionally to team members and mentors.
  • Develops foundational habits in engineering documentation, following established templates and quality requirements.
  • Learns when and how to escalate questions, uncertainties, or higher-impact issues to supervising engineers.
  • Demonstrates curiosity, accountability, and a willingness to learn through feedback and hands-on experience.
  • Supports engineering test activities as a primary responsibility, including test setup, execution, documentation, and reporting under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Assists in developing and revising engineering test protocols, ensuring objectives, methods, acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements are clearly defined.
  • Prepares and configures test setups, fixtures, and equipment for mechanical and functional testing, following established procedures and safety requirements.
  • Executes assigned test protocols accurately, including data collection, observations, and adherence to defined acceptance criteria.
  • Documents test results in clear, well-structured test reports, summarizing outcomes, observations, and conclusions in accordance with quality system expectations.
  • Assists in identifying test anomalies or unexpected results and supports the documentation of test deviations, including root cause inputs and corrective actions under supervision.
  • Maintains organized test records and traceability to requirements, protocols, and design inputs as part of design verification and validation activities.
  • Supports prototype testing and iteration by performing fit-checks, simple bench evaluations, and hands-on build or rework support as directed.
  • Provides limited CAD and drawing support related to test hardware, fixtures, or simple components, incorporating feedback and learning drafting standards.

  • Emphasize continuous improvement and efficiency.

What You'll Bring
  • Actively enrolled in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering program preferred. Alternatively, be a recent graduate of a Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering program.
  • Prior applied co-op/internship experience preferred.

Pay Transparency
The expected pay range for this role is $22.00 - $27.00 per hour. Final compensation will depend on factors such as experience, skills, and internal equity.
In addition to base pay, Permobil provides the following information for this temporary internship assignment:
  • Paid Time Off: PTO is not available for this internship. Unpaid time off may be approved on an as-needed basis and coordinated directly with your supervisor.
  • Benefits: Health insurance benefits are not offered for this temporary assignment.
