Job description

Mechanical Engineer/Designer

Located in Tampa, FL (Onsite). This is not a remote or hybrid position.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of electro-mechanical equipment. Potential hire will be working directly with the design team and manufacturing vendor. Candidate will design, troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve challenges related to product development. This includes root cause analysis, working with suppliers and in-house support personnel, and design improvements from concept to production. Candidate will also be responsible for maintaining, updating drawings and Bills of Material and offer test support. This position is onsite at our Springfield, VA office.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design systems and integrate the multiple systems using SolidWorks from initial concept stage through production launch.
  • Generate and provide analysis of FEA studies in Solidworks.
  • Generate and analyze drawings from parts/assemblies IAW ASME 14.100 and MIL- STD-31000.
  • Assist in production problem solving by interfacing with the manufacturing team to find creative solutions.
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members and represent the company with customers and suppliers.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Education: 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree with 1-5+ years of hands-on experience. OR
  • Education: 2-year technical college degree/military experience with 5+ years of mechanical and design/drawing experience.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience designing mechanical systems and power generation and distribution systems, particularly medium and low voltage switchgear distribution systems
  • Electrical/engine-driven systems integration
  • Knowledge of engineering drawing practices IAW ASME Y14 – including Y14.5, Y14.100
  • Sheet Metal/Structural fabrication and weldments
  • Enclosure Design with thermal analysis
  • SolidWorks and 2D CAD, and the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics are mandatory
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Personal Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving abilities.
  • Must be eligible to receive U.S. Security Clearance
  • Must have ability and some flexibility to travel domestically and internationally - up to 20%
