What is an engineering accelerated development program?

An Engineering Accelerated Development Program is a structured initiative designed by companies to fast-track the career growth of recent engineering graduates or early-career professionals. Participants rotate through different engineering roles or departments, gaining hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to various aspects of the business. These programs typically last one to three years and aim to develop technical skills, leadership capabilities, and a broad understanding of the organization. Upon completion, participants are often placed in advanced roles or leadership tracks within the company.

What types of projects and rotations can participants expect in an engineering accelerated development program, and how do these experiences support career growth?

Participants in an Engineering Accelerated Development Program typically rotate through several departments such as design, manufacturing, quality assurance, and product development. These rotations expose candidates to a variety of engineering challenges and workflows, helping them build a broad skill set and develop a strong understanding of the company’s operations. Working on cross-functional teams and real-world projects fosters strong collaboration skills and professional relationships. This structure is designed to accelerate learning and prepare participants for leadership or specialized technical roles within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an engineering accelerated development program, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Engineering Accelerated Development Program, you need a solid background in engineering principles, a relevant STEM degree, and a demonstrated record of academic or project-based achievement. Familiarity with industry-standard software (such as CAD tools or MATLAB), project management systems, and sometimes Six Sigma or Lean certification is advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, teamwork, adaptability, and leadership potential are highly valued soft skills in this program. These skills and qualifications are crucial for rapid professional growth, effective problem-solving, and success in cross-functional engineering environments.

Rotations are based in selected manufacturing plants in the United States. Plant locations are selected in a manner that addresses business needs while also providing the best developmental experiences for participants. The program will include two physical moves. Relocation assistance is provided for rotations where the distance to the new work location is at least 50 miles.

What you will bring:

  • Proficient in problem-solving skills, with the ability to define and identify the underlying causes of complex operational issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically evaluate alternative options and make informed decisions to achieve specific objectives or goals.
  • Remain geographically flexible both during and after completion of the program.
