Description
The Hockomock Area YMCA is seeking a creative, organized, and passionate Performance Arts Director to lead and grow our youth and teen performing arts programs. This position is responsible for developing, promoting, and implementing high-quality theater productions, performing arts classes, and summer theater camps that inspire creativity, build confidence, and foster personal growth in participants of all ages.
The Performance Arts Director will oversee all aspects of the performing arts program, including production planning, curriculum development, staff supervision, marketing, fundraising, and community engagement. This role is ideal for an experienced performing arts professional who is committed to excellence, youth development, and the YMCA's mission and values.
Essential Functions
  • Direct and oversee all youth and teen theater productions, ensuring a high-quality experience for participants and audiences.
  • Develop and implement performing arts classes and enrichment programs for a variety of age groups throughout the year.
  • Manage all aspects of summer theater camps, including programming, staffing, and performances.
  • Select productions and manage scripts, licensing agreements, rights, and royalties.
  • Create and execute marketing and promotional strategies for auditions, performances, classes, and special events.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and develop theater staff, instructors, interns, and volunteers.
  • Coordinate accompanists, musicians, technical support, and other production resources.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with participants and families through effective communication.
  • Organize and coordinate parent volunteers during rehearsals and performance weeks.
  • Support fundraising initiatives and special events that benefit the YMCA Performing Arts Department.
  • Manage program resources and adhere to YMCA purchasing and financial procedures.
  • Attend branch and association meetings, events, and community activities as required.
  • Ensure performance spaces, equipment, and supplies are maintained in a safe, organized, and professional manner.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Theater, Performing Arts, Arts Education, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in theater, performing arts programming, arts education, or a related field.
  • One to three years of supervisory experience leading staff, volunteers, or interns.
  • Experience managing budgets, program resources, and production expenses.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute multiple productions and programs simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, particularly with youth, families, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Passion for youth development and the arts, with a commitment to creating inclusive and engaging experiences for participants.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by rehearsals, performances, and special events.
