Position Overview

The Manufacturing Technician I supports the fabrication, assembly, testing, and quality assurance of spacecraft components. This role involves working closely with engineers to assemble mechanical components, perform prototype testing, calibrate equipment, collect manufacturing data, and maintain production quality standards. The technician will also handle composite materials, document manufacturing processes, and follow engineering drawings and specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate and assemble mechanical components and subassemblies.
  • Set up, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate prototype units.
  • Assist engineers with design validation, testing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform manufacturing, rework, calibration, and quality testing activities.
  • Collect and analyze production data using manufacturing software.
  • Support process improvements and manufacturing procedures.
  • Handle fragile composite materials and adhesives while maintaining traceability and material controls.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Record production data accurately and communicate with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • High school diploma or GED plus at least 2 years of additional education and/or related experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English work instructions.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Experience using hand tools safely (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.).
  • Understanding of torque concepts.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work overtime, flexible schedules, and different shifts.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using electronic test equipment (DC power supplies, digital multimeters, source meters).
  • Basic shop mathematics.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and manufacturing compliance.
  • Experience operating cranes, rigging equipment, forklifts, or similar manufacturing equipment.
  • Soldering experience.
  • J-STD Certification.
