What is an Engineering Manager?

An Engineering Manager is a professional who oversees engineering teams, guiding them to achieve project goals and company objectives. They are responsible for managing people, processes, and resources, ensuring that engineering projects are completed on time and within budget. Engineering Managers also collaborate with other departments, mentor team members, and help develop technical strategies. Their role bridges the gap between technical engineering tasks and organizational leadership.

How does an Engineer Manager typically support professional development within their team?

Engineer Managers play a key role in fostering the growth of their team members by providing regular feedback, identifying learning opportunities, and encouraging participation in training or mentorship programs. They often help engineers set clear career goals, guide them through skill development, and advocate for their advancement within the organization. By promoting a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration, Engineer Managers help team members stay motivated and aligned with both personal and company objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Engineering Manager, and why are they important?

To excel as an Engineering Manager, you need a strong technical background in engineering principles, project management experience, and often a relevant degree such as in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with project management tools (like Jira or Asana), version control systems (such as Git), and possibly certifications like PMP or Agile Scrum Master are typically required. Exceptional leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills help you motivate teams and manage stakeholders effectively. These competencies are crucial for delivering successful projects, fostering a productive team environment, and driving organizational goals.

The Opportunity:
Process Engineering Manager.
We’re looking for a hands-on, people-focused Process Engineering Manager to lead our Process Engineering team and elevate manufacturing performance to the next level. In this high-visibility role, you’ll directly manage and develop a team of four process engineers while driving improvements in productivity, quality, capacity, and safety.
You’ll play a critical role in shaping the plant’s operational and strategic direction, using advanced manufacturing technologies to support new product and material development. If you thrive on solving complex problems, leading teams, and seeing your ideas come to life on the production floor—this role was built for you.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead process engineering initiatives that improve productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement using data, best practices, and structured problem-solving.
  • Plan, forecast, and execute projects using strong project management discipline.
  • Champion a culture of safety, health, and environmental excellence.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop engineering talent to build a high-performing, engaged team.
  • Manage multiple complex priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Develop and maintain annual capital plans and oversee capital project execution.
  • Establish and maintain process standards, procedures, and specifications to ensure consistent, high-quality output.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 7–10 years of experience in manufacturing, process improvement, and engineering leadership.
  • A proven track record of leading projects and delivering measurable results.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with a passion for developing people.
  • A results-driven mindset with the ability to thrive in a high-performance environment.
  • Solid business and financial acumen with a focus on bottom-line impact.

The Environment:
  • Approximately 70% of your time on the production floor, staying close to the work and the team.
  • Exposure to hot and humid manufacturing conditions—because real leadership shows up where it matters most.

Why Prysmian?
Because here, you’re not just improving processes—you’re building the future of global infrastructure. You’ll lead, innovate, and grow in a company that values ownership, collaboration, and making a lasting impact.
