In this role, you’ll contribute to the design, analysis, and improvement of shipboard systems supporting both HM&E and habitability functions. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you’ll help execute design solutions, support drawing development, and perform engineering analyses to ensure compliance with Navy requirements and technical standards. This position includes opportunities to participate in shipchecks, shipyard visits, and collaboration with Navy activities, shipyards, and equipment manufacturers.

LOCATION: Norfolk, VA

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute design and analysis tasks for shipboard HM&E and habitability systems, including ventilation, piping, outfitting, and electrical systems.
  • Develop and revise engineering drawings and supporting documentation using AutoCAD and other design tools.
  • Conduct engineering analyses, including calculations and modeling, to validate designs and support technical decisions.
  • Research and interpret technical correspondence, NAVSEA specifications, military standards, and equipment manuals.
  • Prepare design documentation, specifications, and technical reports in support of project deliverables.
  • Support drawing submittals and participate in technical reviews with program managers, engineering managers, senior engineers and Planning Yard representatives.
  • Assist in troubleshooting shipboard installation challenges and develop recommendations for design improvements.

  • Conduct shipchecks to collect data, verify as-built configurations, and support design development.
  • Utilize ship drawing indexes and technical libraries to identify, locate, and interpret as-built drawings and legacy documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • 5 years of engineering experience, in shipboard systems, naval architecture, or marine engineering.
  • Prior experience conducting shipchecks or supporting shipboard design integration.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA specifications, military standards, and shipboard design criteria.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for creating and reviewing design drawings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical correspondence and documentation.
  • Willingness to travel (10–20%) to shipyards and vessels as required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.

DESIRED:

  • Experience with ISO 9001 quality management processes.
