THE ROLE
The Engineer I Maintains all facility equipment in good working condition, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical plants; lighting and climate control systems; roofing systems; ground support equipment, and maintenance equipment. Maintains and operates the physical plant, protecting its assets while ensuring the successful production of events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure mechanical/electrical rooms and company vehicles are kept clean and orderly.

  • Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions.

  • Perform general repairs of drywall, carpet, and tile in pre-function, meeting rooms and restrooms, if needed.

  • Repairs furniture and fixtures, if needed.

  • Assists in checking and making minor repairs on general plumbing systems, fixtures such as pipes, toilets and sinks and kitchen equipment.

  • Works on preventative maintenance and energy conservation.

  • Possess competent knowledge of use and care of tools and equipment used in facility and grounds maintenance.

  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner and communicate work order status via tablet device or paperwork.

  • Assist other departments as needed to ensure efficient operation of the Convention Center.

  • Adheres to all ASM Global Safety Policies and Procedures while performing within all OSHA guidelines.

  • Respond to visual and audible alarms from building automation and life safety systems. Make immediate decisions and communicate with all users of the facility in an emergency.

  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures of the construction industry including operation of tools and equipment according to established safety.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and understand verbal and written instructions.

  • Performs other duties, tasks, or special assignments/projects as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty with energy and enthusiasm. Education and/or Experience
  • HS Diploma or equivalent.

  • Graduate of an accredited technical school with specialized training in HVAC and/or maintenance.

  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in maintenance and repair of HVAC in an industrial or commercial setting preferred.

  • Minimum of three years' experience in the operation and maintenance of a public assembly, hotel, or other commercial facility.

  • EPA universal and small appliance certification, preferred.

  • Experience in operating a forklift and aerial lift preferred, but willing to train.

Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of major facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, security, plumbing, and fire/life safety systems.

  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, and motivate maintenance staff activities.

  • Proficiency with computer-controlled and building management systems (BMS) and other automated systems.

  • Strong technical communication skills to support operation and maintenance of facility systems.

  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with staff at all organizational levels, including management.

  • Demonstrated customer service skills with professional demeanor, appearance, and work ethics.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to prepare routine reports and required correspondence.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain current OSHA Forklift and Personnel Lift certifications.
