Those partnerships with key suppliers like Bosch, Garrett, Federal Mogul, Cummins, Stanadyne, Holset, BorgWarner, Delphi, Yanmar, Mitsubishi, Denso and others have been critical in honing our remanufacturing capabilities and expanding our parts offering to include new, no core options in fuel injectors and fuel pumps, diesel engine cylinder heads, blocks, crankshafts and connecting rods. M&D also stocks a complete assortment of turbos (new and remanufactured), inframe overhaul kits, filtration and aftertreatment parts including DPFs, DOCs, EGRs, sensors and other engine parts.

Position Summary

The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on costs related to inventory, manufacturing, operations, and overall business performance. This role partners closely with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and other business leaders to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, margin analysis, and financial reporting. The Cost Accountant identifies cost-saving opportunities, supports budgeting and forecasting processes, and provides financial insights that drive informed business decisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and analyze standard costs for products, materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Perform inventory accounting, including reconciliations, cycle count reviews, physical inventory support, and inventory reserve analysis.
  • Analyze manufacturing and operational variances and provide explanations to management.
  • Monitor inventory transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting policies.
  • Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Prepare and distribute cost and profitability reports for management review.
  • Analyze product margins, pricing, and operational performance to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning activities related to manufacturing and operational costs.
  • Review bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and production data to ensure accurate product costing.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams to improve cost controls and operational efficiencies.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing supporting documentation and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and internal controls.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and system implementations related to accounting, inventory, and cost management.
  • Develop ad hoc financial analyses and reports as requested by management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in cost accounting, manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environments.
  • Experience with ERP systems and inventory management processes required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or progress toward certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation methods.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial audiences.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background and drug screening.
