Job description

Job Summary:

The Engagement Specialist will be responsible for creating a positive environment for tenants, building relationships that foster engagement, and assisting with the coordination of supportive services. The Engagement Specialist will interact with tenants, promote community involvement, and help ensure the smooth operation of the housing program. The engagement specialist is responsible for the provision of basic services to tenants and performance of day-to-day building operation functions.

Key Responsibilities:

•Perform duties and responsibilities in alignment with the scheduled shift to ensure the consistent operation of the housing program.

•Interact with tenants in common spaces to create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere, encouraging participation in program activities.

•Assist supportive services staff in coordinating services for tenants, including contacting external service providers as necessary to meet tenants’ needs.

•Collaborate with supportive services staff in the planning, facilitation, and promotion of activities, support groups, and community meetings to engage tenants and promote a sense of community.

•Manage day-to-day operations within the program office, including checking visitors in and out, answering telephones, and monitoring security systems to maintain a safe and organized environment.

•Oversee safety and security in general access areas, ensuring building rules are followed and responding appropriately to any security concerns.

•Act quickly and appropriately in response to emergencies, including contacting emergency-response systems and taking immediate action as necessary.

•Foster meaningful relationships with tenants to encourage continued engagement with supportive services, contributing to their overall well-being and stability.

•Record significant events involving tenants and building operations in the daily logbook, ensuring that entries are accurate and reviewed regularly; including incident reports when needed.

•Report all incidents or the presence of first responders to the on-call program manager.

•Address tenant complaints with empathy and professionalism, working with the supportive services team to resolve issues promptly.

•Work effectively with supportive service and maintenance staff, as well as visiting staff, to ensure smooth operations and refer tenants to the appropriate team members when necessary.

•Maintain accuracy, clarity, and confidentiality in all professional communications, including verbal, written, and electronic correspondence.

•Utilize de-escalation techniques when necessary to manage challenging situations and maintain a peaceful and respectful environment.

•Exhibit strong work ethic through punctuality, preparedness, and a commitment to fulfilling assigned responsibilities.

•Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall success of the housing program and tenant services.

Other Duties:

•Represent Homefull in a professional manner at work, at all events, and on all social media outlets.

•Develop and deliver clear, concise, accurate and professional verbal, written, and electronic communications.

•Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

•Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with tact and diplomacy.

•Respond to emails, calls, mail, in a timely manner.

Minimum Requirements:

•Bachelors’ degree in social services, behavioral services or related experience preferred

•Strong people skills and ability to deescalate difficult situations.

•Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

•Basic understanding of homelessness and various characteristics of homeless; experience with mental illness and/or chemical dependency preferred.

•Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals with diverse backgrounds.

•Commitment to the philosophy of cooperation and continuity across programs and of consideration and respect for clients.

•Proficiency in email communication and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

•Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines efficiently while paying attention to detail.

Abilities Required

Superb oral and written communications skills, and computer skills including Word, Excel, and Power Point. Reliable transportation.
