Job description

Position Purpose

Perform supply and trading functions for the Company related to energy procurement of physical and financial gas and power transactions. This includes buying gas and electricity to serve customer load, dispatching generation units in the MISO market, optimizing assets in the short and mid term, and implementing the Company's Risk Management Plan.

Core Responsibilities

Note: this list is not all-inclusive

  • Develop and implement daily and monthly electric strategies for buying load and selling generation in the MISO market.
  • Coordinate daily and monthly market activities for jointly owned power plants and Power Purchase Agreements.
  • Monitor, adjust, and implement power and natural gas strategies daily in response to market changes.
  • Coordinate daily and monthly natural gas supply for generation with Dispatch Analyst.
  • Participate in MISO market activities such as auction revenue rights/financial transmission rights, virtuals, and capacity auctions.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the MISO tariff, Public Service Commission rules, and other regulatory requirements affecting energy procurement; ensure compliance with market rules at all times.
  • Develop and implement hedging plans under the Risk Management Plan to manage price exposure risks in gas and electric markets.
  • Monitor and develop information for the Company's Electric Fuel Budget.
  • Continually monitor physical and financial natural gas and power markets to identify purchase and sale opportunities, optimize Company assets, and evaluate supplier credit risks.
  • Provide daily and weekend support as part of a 24/7 on-call rotation to monitor gas system load and electric transactions.
  • Generate analyses, confirmations, and documentation to ensure complete and accurate support for trading activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with counterparties, including trading partners, joint plant personnel, utilities, and other market participants.
  • Participate in state and federal regulatory issues as directed.
  • Maintain compliance with Company policies, procedures, fuels procurement processes, risk management programs, and credit policy.
  • Serve as backup for colleagues in the department to ensure consistent coverage of critical tasks.
  • Maintain familiarity with the Company's tariff and recommend changes to meet Company objectives.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in areas requiring accuracy and detailed analysis.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience
  • 2-5 years of experience in the power-trading industry.
Work Location
  • This hybrid role is based at our Madison, WI headquarters. While three days onsite is the minimum, team collaboration and business needs may require additional in-office presence.

Pre-employment will require satisfactory completion of a background check and drug screen.
