SUMMARY

The Energy Engineer II is a mid-level technical role responsible for performing energy analyses, facility assessments, commissioning support, and whole-building energy modeling as part of PARTNER’s Energy & Sustainability consulting team. This role contributes directly to project execution and client deliverables, while taking on increasing responsibility in project coordination, technical problem-solving, and small-project management.

The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in building systems and energy analysis and is ready to grow into greater technical and project leadership responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits with support from senior staff, across a variety of commercial asset types
  • Perform whole-building energy modeling using industry-standard tools
  • Conduct field inspections, building system evaluations, and functional performance testing
  • Analyze HVAC, lighting, controls, central plant, and other building systems for energy-saving opportunities
  • Evaluate renewable energy opportunities and assist with feasibility analyses
  • Prepare technical reports, recommendations, calculations, and client-ready deliverables
  • Review contractor submittals and supporting documentation for technical accuracy
  • Manage small projects or defined project workstreams, including schedule and budget tracking
  • Support invoicing, forecasting, staffing coordination, and project recordkeeping
  • Communicate with clients and internal teams regarding project status, schedules, and technical questions
  • Maintain utilization targets and deliver high-quality work on schedule
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and values

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience in energy efficiency, performance contracting, commissioning, building analysis, or related consulting work; or Master’s degree in Engineering with 1+ year of related experience
  • Experience using energy modeling tools such as eQuest, EnergyPro, TRACE, and/or EnergyPlus
  • Experience conducting energy analyses of building systems including HVAC, chillers, boilers, lighting, controls, and variable speed drives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project coordination skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
  • Experience with commissioning, retro-commissioning, ESG-related analysis, or utility benchmarking
  • Familiarity with commercial real estate asset types including office, multifamily, industrial, healthcare, or retail

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, BAS/controls, lighting, and building envelope components
  • Ability to analyze technical data and translate findings into practical recommendations
  • Strong report-writing and quality control skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to read printed materials and electronic documents
  • Ability to travel up to 25% for project work and site visits
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs as needed during field work
  • Ability to work outdoors and in non-conditioned building or mechanical spaces on occasion

Compensation:

Expected salary range: $80,000–$115,000 annually

The pay scale for this role considers a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note, the disclosed pay scale estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic location where the position may be filled. You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive bonus program which is dependent on various factors, including, but not limited to, individual and organizational performance.
