Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Transportation Engineer to join our Atlanta office. The Mid level Transportation Engineer is an individual contributor who provides project management for a variety of surface transportation design projects. Operating with a high degree of latitude, the role independently applies advanced engineering techniques, sets direction for its own work within agreed project expectations, and takes on client-facing responsibilities including design scope development and RFP/procurement support for design-build projects. This is an individual-contributor role; position may directly supervise one or two staff on assigned projects and mentors junior engineers on conceptual design work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs design project management tasks for surface transportation projects from conceptual to final design
  • Develops design scope of services for design-build projects and/or specific client templates
  • Provides engineering design input, RFP development, and procurement assistance for traditional design-build transportation projects
  • Develops specifications, cost estimates, and prepares final bid packages
  • Coordinates design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participates in project management decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance
  • Maintains and establishes working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, state DOTs, and private clients
  • Mentors and assists junior engineers in developing conceptual design plans, including roadway and bridge cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans; identifies additional right-of-way and permitting needs
  • Identifies schedule and cost variances and develops and implements recommendations for corrective action when needed

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering, or a related field; required
  • 7–10 years of experience in transportation engineering design projects (an advanced degree with 5+ years of experience may also be considered)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Georgia or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire; required
  • Advanced competency in surface transportation engineering design, including roadway and drainage, from conceptual to final design; proficiency with ORD, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office: required
  • Strong knowledge of applicable state DOT design standards; experience developing design scopes of services and supporting RFP development and procurement for design-build projects; required
  • Professional network with municipal, state DOT, local government, and/or regulatory agency staff preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working Conditions:


Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
