About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
This position can be located anywhere in FirstEnergy's footprint, including the major FE hubs including Akron, Reading, Greensburg, Fairmont, Morristown/Holmdel, Erie, or Toledo. A-FEHQ or Greensburg are preferred.
The selected candidate may be offered a position within the same job family, at a level that is lower than what was posted. This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate's skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.
Job Summary:
This position is in FirstEnergy's Energy Efficiency Department on the Evaluation, Measurement, and Verification team. This position provides analytical support for the development and implementation of EM&V (evaluation, measurement, and verification) processes and protocols necessary to verify program performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the continuous improvement of energy efficiency (EE) and peak demand reduction (DR) programs across all FirstEnergy operating companies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and support FirstEnergy's independent evaluation contractors responsible for conducting impact, process, and net-to-gross evaluations of residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency programs to ensure alignment and proper coordination with regulatory guidelines and statewide evaluators.
  • Facilitate coordination between implementation and evaluation contractors to collect, analyze, and validate program participation and measure savings data needed to support EM&V requirements and regulatory reporting.
  • Review and analyze evaluation documents and results (e.g., evaluation plans, EM&V reports, studies, tracking data, customer surveys, cost-effectiveness analysis) for technical merit; to inform program planning, development, and implementation activities; to recommend improvements to maximize program savings; and to support achievement of compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate with development and implementation teams to identify potential evaluation impacts to mitigate compliance risk, improve program performance, and drive customer satisfaction.
  • Lead or participate in internal and external meetings focused on evaluation activities, program initiatives, and customer projects.
  • Assist in developing regulatory filings, evaluation reports, and stakeholder presentations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulators, evaluators, and various stakeholders to promote corporate positions and advocate for EM&V policies supported by industry standards and best practices.
  • Acquire and provide high-level knowledge and technical expertise on industry intelligence, emerging trends, and new technologies related to utility energy efficiency, demand response, building decarbonization, and electrification programs.
  • Perform contract management activities including invoice reviews and forecasting spending.

Qualifications:
Business Analyst
  • Two or four-year degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering Technology, or related discipline, along with a minimum of 4 years professional work experience required.
  • In lieu of a degree, 7 years related professional work experience required.
  • Related work experience includes:
    • Relevant project management experience
    • Engaging with regulatory agencies or commissions
    • Experience working collaboratively with and leading teams
    • Previous experience with energy efficiency (EE), demand response (DR), or demand side management (DSM) programs a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and deliver accurate, high-quality work within established deadlines, driving projects and tasks to successful completion.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within diverse team environments.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot issues and recommend effective solutions.
  • Initiative in leading discussions, offering constructive input, maintaining openness to multiple project solutions and pathways, and facilitating consensus.
  • Strong customer focus, with the ability to understand end-user needs and ensure work products align with those expectations.
  • Ability to apply a fundamental analytic approach to evolving scenarios and to quickly learn new concepts, technologies, and methodologies.

Advanced or Senior Business Analyst
  • Four-year degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering Technology, or related discipline, along with a minimum of 7 years professional work experience required.
