Job Description

Commercial QA/QC Specialist - Austin, TX (Austin Energy Multifamily EE Program)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled individual to join our team as a Commercial QA/QC Specialist supporting the Austin Energy Multifamily Energy Efficiency (EE) Program. In this role, you will serve as a local, on-site program representative working directly with multifamily properties to ensure the quality, performance, and compliance of energy efficiency improvements.

This position is based in Austin, Texas and primarily serves the surrounding area. Overnight travel is rare. A company vehicle may be provided for local fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform quality assurance (QA) inspections and audits on multifamily energy efficiency upgrades, with a strong focus on HVAC systems.
  • Conduct pre- and post-installation inspections to verify proper installation and performance of energy-saving measures.
  • Evaluate HVAC maintenance tune-ups and system upgrades for compliance, safety, and efficiency.
  • Inspect lighting systems, controls, and other mechanical components to ensure adherence to program standards.
  • Accurately measure airflow and system performance using technical diagnostic equipment.
  • Operate and test HVAC equipment to confirm functionality and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide clear documentation, reporting, and feedback to internal program teams regarding project scope, findings, and outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted field representative for Austin Energy and program stakeholders, maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer interaction.
  • Travel locally within the Austin service area to support inspections across multifamily properties.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred to effectively support diverse communities.
  • HVAC experience required (minimum 1+ year preferred).
  • BPI Certification (Building Performance Institute) required.
  • EPA Universal Certification a plus.
  • Experience working in multifamily, residential, or light commercial energy efficiency programs is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with lighting systems, controls, and energy efficiency technologies.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to assess HVAC and building systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other data/reporting tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in varying climates and field environments.
  • Ability to safely climb ladders and access equipment (up to 24 feet).
  • Frequent physical movement including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment or materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to perform repetitive hand and diagnostic tasks.
Driving & Safety Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to safely operate a vehicle for local travel within the Austin area.
  • This is a safety-sensitive, field-based position requiring work at customer properties and job sites.
  • Must pass a post-offer drug screen and motor vehicle record check.
  • Ongoing employment requires maintaining a clean driving record and adherence to all safety policies.
