Job Summary

The OIT User Service Intern will assist with the daily functions of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) User Service group and technical support by phone, remote desktop, walk-in or on-site assistance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Handles routine office inquiries from employees and students.

  • Assist with the physical relocation of computer equipment.

  • Installation must include the connection of the equipment peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.) and connection of the University network.

  • Assist user with diverse computer-related and telephone issues.

  • Use Bomgar software to remotely connect/chat with users to resolve issues.

  • Assist with the update of workstations with recent patches to the current operating system and other applications.

  • Maintain required documentation.

  • Decommission nonfunctional computers and equipment to surplus.

  • Work on special projects consisting of, but not limited to, physically mounting network and network-related equipment and preparing computers with an updated software image.

  • Maintain inventory of software, desktop hardware, network hardware and communication connections.

  • Responsible for ensuring that areas of the University's information systems and services comply with Texas A&M International University rules and standard administrative procedures, as well as with The Texas A&M University System policies and regulations, PCI security standards, and/or other applicable standards such as FERPA, HIPAA, copyright laws, and the State of Texas Administrative Code (TAC) 202.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.

  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.

  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

  • Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications.

  • Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills.

  • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to learn and use multiple software programs.

  • Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 20 lbs.

  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.

  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.

  • Promptly complete all required trainings.

  • Submit time sheet biweekly.

  • Subject to funding and/or need.

Pay of Rate: $10.50/hour for up to 19 hours weekly
