Job description

Job Title: Sr. AWS Cloud Engineer
Job Location: Hybrid- Minneapolis, MN, USA

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to design, build, and deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing cloud, DevOps, and data platform solutions across AWS, Azure, and Microsoft Fabric.
This role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders and cross-functional technology teams to architect modern cloud-native systems, optimize enterprise data flows, automate deployments, and enable data-driven decision-making through resilient analytics platforms. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in driving cloud modernization, DevOps transformation, platform reliability, and cloud governance.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $90,000 to $103,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
In this role, you will
  • Lead cloud modernization initiatives, including re-architecting and optimizing legacy applications into AWS and Azure cloud ecosystems
  • Architect and implement cloud-native solutions such as serverless computing, container orchestration, and event-driven architectures
  • Design and enforce AWS cloud security frameworks, including IAM policies, encryption strategies, key management, and infrastructure-level vulnerability remediation
  • Implement governance practices including tagging standards, cost optimization (FinOps), and resource compliance monitoring
  • Develop and automate infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and AWS CloudFormation
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Bitbucket, or equivalent platforms
  • Establish monitoring, observability, and automated recovery mechanisms to ensure high availability and reliability
  • Drive adoption and implementation of Microsoft Fabric components including Lakehouse, Pipelines, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Intelligence, and Data Activator
  • Develop scalable data solutions leveraging Python, AWS Glue, Lambda, Azure Data Factory, and Fabric Pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and orchestration
  • Define and enforce performance standards, governance models, workspace architecture, and security controls for Microsoft Fabric environments
  • Build reusable automation utilities using Python and cloud SDKs to enhance operational efficiency
  • Conduct Proof of Concepts (POCs) to evaluate emerging tools, technologies, and processes for continuous improvement
  • Lead delivery of complex cloud (AWS), data, and AI initiatives, ensuring effective management of timelines, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder communication

What you'll need to succeed (required skills)
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering with strong expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform and AWS CloudFormation for infrastructure automation
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture patterns (serverless, containers, event-driven systems)
  • Experience in implementing AWS security best practices including IAM, encryption, and compliance controls
  • Proficiency in building CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Bitbucket, or similar tools
  • Strong programming/scripting experience in Python
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools in cloud environments
  • Solid experience working with data platforms and ETL/ ELT pipelines.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric and its core components (Lakehouse, Pipelines, Data Warehouse)
  • Exposure to multi-cloud environments (AWS + Azure)
  • Experience with data engineering tools such as AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, or similar
  • Familiarity with FinOps practices and cost optimization strategies
