NaphCare is seeking a PRN Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join our healthcare team at the Washoe County Jail in Reno, Nevada. This PRN opportunity offers a premium pay rate of $23.46/hr and is ideal for EMTs seeking flexible scheduling, supplemental income, and the opportunity to expand their clinical experience in a unique healthcare environment.
As a Correctional EMT, you will work alongside correctional officers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide care to an underserved patient population within a secure setting. Responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, responding to medical emergencies, assisting with treatment and intake processes, monitoring patient conditions, and supporting daily healthcare operations. This role offers exposure to a wide range of medical situations, allowing you to utilize and strengthen your emergency response, assessment, and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities
Job Duties / Responsibilities
The EMT / Paramedic will play a critical role in our continued mission to provide quality healthcare that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Duties and responsibilities may include and not be limited to:
  • Responding to emergencies, administering medications, and coordinating with other staff to ensure inmate health and safety.
  • Assist with performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history
  • Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and weight, draw blood
  • Documenting medical history including medications, treatment and medical conditions
  • Assisting with the maintenance of medical equipment and supplies within the facility
  • Complete intake screening
  • Administer and read PPD
  • Ensuring the safety and security of inmates and staff during medical procedures and transport
  • Observing and reporting changes in patients' physical or mental health to nurses

Requirements / Qualifications
  • Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program
  • Ability to obtain the necessary state license for EMT
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Have CPR Certification
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements

Physical Capabilities:
Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
