Description
The University of Rochester, Department of Emergency Medicine, seeks a committed physician faculty member to lead the Emergency Department at Jones Memorial Hospital. The Chief would be a faculty member at the University of Rochester, a tertiary care teaching facility located in Rochester, NY, while serving as an attending physician and department chief at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY. Clinical responsibilities include patient care and teaching of residents and medical students. The Department Chief is invited to participate in monthly division meetings, assigned administrative functions and institutional committees as requested. Your employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a health screening exam, pre-placement TB test and your full cooperation in completing screening for the illegal use of drugs.

Physician duties as Department Chief of the Hospital Emergency Department shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

Developing and implementing departmental quality improvement and peer review programs; also responsible for reviewing charts and provider performance in instances of quality and safety concerns - in conjunction with the hospital's Director of Quality.

Advising the hospital's administrative staff regarding policies, procedures and programs, both current and new, for the department.
-
Advising the hospital on the acquisition of equipment and supplies for the department.
-
Participating in relevant medical staff department and committee meetings as requested by the CEO or CMO (eg:Departmental Chiefs meetings; quarterly ED Multidisiplinary/QA meeting; medical executive committee).

Assisting the hospital with the development, review and updating of its disaster plan.
-
Cooperating with the hospital in reducing costs associated with the provision services, while improving customer satisfaction and the quality of care rendered in the department.

Coordinate with designated provider scheduler to ensure safe staffing at all times.

Working with hospital administration and other department chiefs organizing the delivery of services in the department and coordinating it with other hospital departments, programs and services.

Making recommendations to the hospital concerning medical staff appointment, reappointment, staff classification, delineation of clinical privileges and required levels of supervision for practitioners in the department; assist in interviewing and recruiting prospective ED providers.

Maintaining a continuing review of the professional performance of all practitioners in the department, including but not limited to conformance of clinical practice to the scope of each practitioner's credentials, training and privileges.

Being responsible for the enforcement within the department of the bylaws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the hospital and its medical staff, as they may exist from time to time.

Cooperating with hospital administration and nursing staff in matters affecting patient care, including personnel and supplies.

Meeting on a regular basis with the hospital's Medical Director/CMO and other personnel to discuss department organization, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, operations, performance concerns, problem solving and opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications
Candidates must be Board certified (or Board eligible) in Emergency Medicine and have a NYS Medical License
