Position Title
HIM SpecialistDays - Full TimeBell HospitalPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Health Information Management Specialist is responsible for learning and providing assistance to users of the electronic medical record system.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonalrelationships, and technical skills
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care/service safely and efficiently for the care of each patient.
  • Learns the HIM departmental systems in depth that support the electronic medical record (EMR) through a combination of formal and on-the-job training.
  • Handles questions from users and responds in a timely manner.
  • Re-enforces training to users.
  • Acts as a liaison between Health Information Management and the UKH Healthcare Information Technical Services (HITS) Department for application design, testing, and issue resolution for implementations and post go-live support.
  • Analyzes workflows and data collection. Audits internal processes. Reports issues needing resolution to Management and HITS.
  • Assists with troubleshooting any EMR interface errors.
  • Helps educate physicians on EMR processes and procedures relating to chart documentation and completion processes.
  • Will perform other HIM Department duties/tasks associated with patient indexing, transcription processing, analysis, customer service or release of information (ROI).
  • Responsible for a high standard of quality and quantity.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • 2 or more years of HIM experience.
  • Prior experience with an electronic medical record (EMR), Epic EMR desirable.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree In Health Information Technology
  • Bachelors Degree In Health Information Administration

Knowledge Requirements
  • Must be accurate and detail oriented.
  • Possess excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be highly organized, able to work independently and be team-oriented.
  • Must have the initiative to continually improve technical skills.
  • Must be willing to work various shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
