EMT-R / Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
Summary
The EMT-R or EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) functions as a support team member for EMTs and Paramedics in daily operations. This support includes, but is not limited to, ambulance driving, performing CPR, collecting required patient documentation and personal belongings, maintaining HIPAA compliance, delivering excellent customer service, and adhering to standard operating procedures. Training will be provided to qualified applicants hired for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Respond to all calls for service dispatched through the communications center as directed.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and comply with all state and local laws while safely transporting crew members and patients in accordance with standard operating procedures and medical director-approved protocols.
  • Ensure the ambulance and all equipment are cleaned, inspected, and maintained daily. Report any deficiencies immediately to the shift supervisor.
  • Prepare and complete required documentation, including exposure reports, incident reports, and daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle and equipment checklists.
  • Ensure unit and crew members adhere to company policies, procedures, guidelines, directives, and standards. Report any deficiencies to the shift supervisor.
  • Ensure assigned vehicles comply with all applicable laws, licensing requirements, regulations, and safety standards established by state and local authorities.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance, including participation in mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain a state of readiness and professionalism while on duty.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while in company uniform, both on and off duty.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of job-related standard operating procedures and medical director-approved protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret local maps, follow dispatch instructions, and obtain additional information when necessary.
  • Ability to represent the organization and fellow team members in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully perform multiple, simultaneous, and rapidly changing tasks.
  • Ability to read and understand medical terminology, preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to respond to questions regarding patient care, company operations, and customer service matters.
Working Environment
Due to the nature of EMS operations, employees may be exposed to inclement weather, hazardous conditions, psychological stressors, infectious diseases, and other illnesses. Frequent interruptions, work pressure, difficult interactions, and irregular work schedules are expected. Employees must be able to adapt to continually changing priorities and deadlines. Occasional attendance at meetings outside regular working hours may be required. Depending on call volume and operational demands, employees may occasionally work extended periods without sleep, meals, or breaks.
Qualifications:
  • State of Georgia EMT-R Certification
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma or GED (minimum requirement)
  • Basic Life Support Certification (provided during training)
  • Completion of documented training, including 5-day orientation (mandatory completion)
  • Background, MVR & Drug screen required (provided upon offer)
  • Current State of Georgia Driver's License

Physical Requirements:
โ€ข Regularly required to use hands and arms to grasp, handle, reach, push, pull. Some manual dexterity required.
โ€ข Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, or balance. Occasionally will sit/ drive for periods of 2 hours or more.
โ€ข Ability to remain alert to verbal and nonverbal communications while driving or assisting medical professionals.
โ€ข Demonstrated ability to lift and/or move up to 180 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 300 pounds or more with assistance.
โ€ข Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
