Job Title: Medical Assistant - McMinnvilleJob Description

This Medical Assistant role plays a vital part in supporting a rheumatology practice by creating an efficient patient flow and a welcoming atmosphere for every visitor. You will perform a blend of administrative and clinical tasks, manage daily schedules, and ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record to support high-quality patient care. Using critical thinking and problem-solving skills, you will help deliver professional, compassionate, and timely care to patients during challenging seasons of their lives.

Responsibilities
  • Record patients’ medical history, vital statistics, and test results accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, ensuring rooms remain neat, clean, organized, and fully stocked.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, including blood pressure, weight, and height.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for evaluation by the physician or advanced practice provider.
  • Provide medically appropriate instructions to patients under the direction of a physician or advanced practice provider.
  • Ensure all relevant patient information and documentation are complete and available in the electronic record before each appointment.
  • Prepare and process FMLA forms, prior authorizations, disability paperwork, referrals, laboratory requests, and prescription refill documentation.
  • Use the electronic medical record and scheduling software to manage daily schedules, book new appointments, and coordinate follow-up visits.
  • Collaborate closely with other medical assistants and ancillary staff to support smooth clinic operations and coordinated patient care.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers by following established standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
  • Apply medical terminology and knowledge of infectious disease precautions while performing clinical tasks and patient care activities.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and uphold professional standards in all interactions.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in managing multiple changing priorities while remaining organized, detail-oriented, and focused on patient needs.
  • Use strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with a diverse patient population and support a compassionate care experience.
  • Report to and communicate effectively with the medical assistant supervisor regarding workflow, issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
Essential Skills
  • GED or high school diploma.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a medical assistant, including back office documentation such as prescription refills, laboratory requests, FMLA forms, referral paperwork, and related tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and electronic health records (EHR); Epic experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in medical assisting and patient care, including taking vital signs such as blood pressure and performing basic office medical procedures and treatments.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and infectious disease precautions.
  • Experience working with EMR and scheduling software, including understanding of insurance and managed care operations.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to work effectively with medical software and electronic documentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients and clinical staff.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor in high-stress situations and manage stress with grace and composure.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized manner.

Work Environment

This position is based in a rheumatology practice located in McMinnville, Oregon, serving patients from the broader Salem and Willamette Valley region. The practice focuses on treating a wide range of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases and conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, gout, psoriatic arthritis, scleroderma, vasculitis, and related disorders. The clinic environment is physician-owned and designed to provide efficient, high-quality care in an outpatient setting. You will work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break, supporting a consistent daytime schedule. The team uses electronic medical records and scheduling software, with Epic preferred, and relies on standard medical office equipment and tools to support patient care. The culture emphasizes quality, compassion, service, and providing excellent care close to home for patients who might otherwise face long wait times or travel distances. The environment values collaboration, professionalism, and continuous learning, with an expectation of maintaining a neat, clean, and well-organized clinical space.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of McMinnville, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.32 - $29.72/hr.
