Job Overview

The Government Relations Intern provides research, coordination, and administrative support to the Government Affairs team. This role assists in monitoring legislation, supporting advocacy initiatives, preparing communication materials, and coordinating engagement activities with elected officials, trade associations, and community partners.  This position provides exposure to the community and sustainability teams as they intersect with government relations. The intern will gain exposure to the relationship between business operations and public policy while learning how Coca-Cola Consolidated engages in purpose-driven advocacy to serve its communities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct policy and legislative research
  • Monitor local, state, and federal legislation, regulations, and public policy issues that may impact company operations; summarize findings in concise updates for the Government Affairs team and senior leaders.
  • Support communications and briefing materials
  • Draft memos, talking points, presentations, and internal updates related to government relations priorities, advocacy events, and community engagement activities.
  • Assist with stakeholder and event coordination
  • Support the planning and logistics of legislative visits, advocacy days, community events, and other engagement opportunities with elected officials, trade associations, and business partners.
  • Track and maintain government relations data and reports
  • Maintain accurate tracking documents and databases related to legislative activity, partner engagement, and compliance reporting.
  • Conduct research on public affairs and industry issues
  • Analyze external trends and best practices in government affairs, corporate social responsibility, and community partnerships to inform strategic recommendations.
  • Collaborate with intern partners
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including Communications, Legal, Community Relations, and Public Affairs, to align messaging and support integrated initiatives.
  • Perform general administrative and project support
  • Assist with scheduling, document preparation, and other operational needs to ensure the Government Affairs team functions effectively.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficient skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and a general understanding of data analysis techniques
  • Collaborates, communicates, and develops relationships of trust with others in a way that is professional and impactful
  • Asks questions to understand an issue from multiple angles and poses creative solutions to challenges
  • Takes initiative to contribute to or positively affect change
  • Prioritizes responsibilities and manages time to deliver commitments on time and to expectations

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited 4-year college or university
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior internship or volunteer experience in government, public affairs, or community relations. Familiarity with legislative research or policy tracking tools.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, public affairs, or a related field.
