JOB TITLE

Communications Specialist

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing clear, accurate and engaging communications that support the organization's internal and external messaging. This position serves as a key writer and editor for the Communications and Public Relations team, producing high-quality content for employees, executives, media and external stakeholders while ensuring consistency in messaging, tone and brand standards.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer who is highly organized, self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. This individual must be able to translate complex information into clear, concise communications and work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.

   Write, edit and proofread a wide variety of internal and external communications.
   Develop content for company advisors, employee announcements, newsletters and executive communications.
   Draft and edit press releases, media advisories, talking points, speeches, presentations, executive correspondence and Q&A documents.
   Support the development of communication strategies and messaging for organizational initiatives.
   Ensure all communications align with company messaging, brand standards and editorial guidelines.
   Review communications prepared by team members and business partners for clarity, consistency, grammar and accuracy.
   Translate technical or operational information into communications that are easily understood by diverse audiences.
   Coordinate with departments throughout the organization to gather information, manage communication requests and ensure timely delivery of messaging.
   Support media relations activities, including responding to media inquiries, coordinating interviews, preparing briefing materials and maintaining media resources.
   Assist with social media content planning, copywriting and campaign support.
   Support crisis and issues communications as needed.
   Represent the company at community, government, media and other external events.
   Perform other duties in support of the Communication and PR team's core responsibilities.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

   Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or a closely related field.
   Minimum of five (5) years of professional writing experience.
   Experience supporting media relations activities.
   Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
   Demonstrated ability to write for multiple audiences, including employees, executives, media and the public.
   Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
   Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
   Strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
   Self-starter with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
   Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
   Experience writing press releases and executive messaging.
   Experience supporting crisis communications.
   Experience with social media platforms.
   Proficiency with AP Style.
   Experience with Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Suite and social media management platforms.
Additional Information
Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to submit professional writing samples demonstrating a variety of writing styles. Examples may include press releases, executive speeches, employee communications, newsletters, feature articles, media materials or other published or professional communications. Finalists may also be asked to complete a writing and editing exercise as part of the selection process.
