What is an EMI manager?

EMI Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the compliance, administration, and operations of Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs). They ensure the institution meets regulatory requirements, manages financial operations, and maintains secure electronic payment services. Their role often includes risk management, liaising with regulatory bodies, and implementing policies to safeguard funds and customer data. EMI Managers play a crucial part in the financial technology sector by ensuring that digital payment services are reliable and compliant.

How does an EMI manager typically collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth electronic money operations?

An EMI Manager works closely with teams such as compliance, IT, customer service, and finance to ensure that electronic money operations run efficiently and adhere to regulatory standards. They often coordinate with compliance officers to implement anti-money laundering protocols, partner with IT to maintain secure transaction systems, and support customer service in resolving payment issues. This cross-functional collaboration is essential for addressing operational challenges, staying up-to-date with regulatory changes, and ensuring a seamless experience for customers. Regular meetings and clear communication channels are key to fostering effective teamwork in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EMI manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) Manager, you need a solid background in electrical or electronics engineering, with expertise in EMI/EMC standards, testing, and mitigation techniques. Familiarity with tools like spectrum analyzers, EMI test chambers, and relevant compliance certifications (such as CISPR, FCC, or MIL-STD-461) is typically required. Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills help coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure regulatory compliance. These skills are crucial for minimizing interference risks, meeting industry standards, and ensuring the successful deployment of electronic products.

Job description

K2 is building the largest and highest-power satellites ever flown, unlocking performance levels previously out of reach across every orbit. Backed by over $1 billion in total funding from leading investors including Altimeter Capital, ICONIQ, Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures, and T. Rowe Price - and with over $1 billion in signed contracts across commercial and US government customers, we're mass-producing the highest-power satellite platforms ever built for missions from LEO to deep space.
The rise of heavy-lift launch vehicles is shifting the industry from an era of mass constraint to one of mass abundance, and we believe this new era demands a fundamentally different class of spacecraft. Engineered to survive the harshest radiation environments and to fully capitalize on today's and tomorrow's massive rockets, K2 satellites deliver unmatched capability at constellation scale and across multiple orbits.
With multiple launches in 2027 and plans to scale to 100 satellites a year, we're Building Bigger - helping develop the solar system and build toward a Kardashev Type II (K2) civilization. If you are a motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and you're excited about contributing to the success of a high-growth Series D-funded company, we'd love for you to apply.
The Role
In collaboration with Electrical Engineers, you will spearhead the EMC test campaigns for some of the highest power satellite architectures ever flown. You will own EMI test architecture, automation, and execution for all of K2's in-house designed electronics, not just ensuring compliance with existing standards, but pushing designs to the next level of EMI performance.
Responsibilities
  • Define EMI/EMC test and compliance philosophy for K2 Avionics. Lead design of K2 EMC test infrastructure, developing the hardware and software to enable high-rate EMC development and production testing.
  • Work alongside electrical engineers and mechanical engineers to test for and correct EMI-susceptible and high emissions electrical designs.
  • Investigate novel EMI mitigation solutions at the systems, component, and materials levels.
  • Run test campaigns to generate launch provider and customer deliverables.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years working in an EMI/EMC related role.
  • Strong grasp of EMI first principles.
  • Project management; cross-dsciplinary application

Nice to Have
  • Experience with MIL-STD-461 and SMC-S-008.
  • Experience designing differential and common-mode EMI filters.
  • Experience writing software in Python, Rust or other language for test automation.
  • Familiarity with high voltage DCDC converter topologies and relative impacts to EMI.
  • Familiarity with high-speed digital communications protocols and relative impacts to EMI.
  • Experience working with Altium Designer to design PCBAs.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Base salary range for this role is $140,000 - $190,000 + equity in the company
  • Salary will be based on several factors including, but not limited to: knowledge and skills, education, and experience level
  • Comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, paid parental leave, and many other perks

If you don't meet 100% of the preferred skills and experience, we encourage you to still apply! Building a spacecraft unlike any other requires a team unlike any other and non-traditional career twists and turns are encouraged!
If you need a reasonable accommodation as part of your application for employment or interviews with us, please let us know.
