Summary:

The Landscape Irrigation Installation Crew Leader is responsible for the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of irrigation systems for residential, commercial, and public landscape projects. The technician works closely with project managers, landscape crews, and clients to ensure efficient, high-quality irrigation systems that promote healthy landscapes and water conservation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret irrigation plans, blueprints, and site drawings.
  • Install irrigation systems, including main and lateral lines, valves, sprinklers, drip systems, controllers, and backflow prevention devices.
  • Perform trenching, pipe laying, wiring, and all aspects of irrigation system installation.
  • Ensure all systems are properly connected and tested for coverage, leaks, and proper function.
  • Program and set up irrigation timers and controllers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues with existing irrigation systems when needed.
  • Coordinate with foremen and other crews to ensure timely and accurate installation.
  • Follow safety guidelines and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in clean, functional condition.
  • Ensure compliance with local codes, regulations, and water agency requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations and materials used.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical training a plus).
  • 2+ years of experience in irrigation system installation (landscape industry preferred).
  • Knowledge of various irrigation products (Hunter, Rain Bird, Toro, etc.).
  • Ability to read plans and install systems to specifications.
  • Basic electrical knowledge for controller and valve wiring.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (commercial license is a plus).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Regularly visits and works on active construction job sites.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction-related hazards.
  • Requires walking on uneven terrain, climbing.
  • Requires lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, digging, standing for long periods.
  • May require early morning starts, extended hours, or weekend work depending on project needs.
