Job Summary

The Product Strategist - Emerging Technologies is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and developing product and market strategies for next-generation technologies that will shape the future of data center infrastructure. This role serves as a key link between market intelligence, customer needs, technology innovation, product management, engineering, and business leadership. The Product Strategist assesses emerging market trends, competitive dynamics, customer requirements, and technology advancements to support Vertiv's long-term growth strategy, product roadmap development, and investment decisions.

This position will be based onsite at our Westerville, OH location.

Responsibilities:

  • Commercial Assessment: Evaluate research programs for commercial potential - assessing market demand, technical feasibility, regulatory pathway, and time-to-market.
  • Customer Discovery & Competitive Analysis: Conduct customer discovery interviews, competitive landscape analysis, and market sizing to inform research priorities and investment decisions.
  • Research-to-Business Alignment: Work with research teams to align research roadmaps with business strategy, product portfolio needs, and market timing.
  • Go-to-Market Planning: Develop preliminary go-to-market strategies for promising research outcomes, including pricing frameworks, channel strategies, and launch sequencing.
  • Proof-of-Concept Guidance: Guide proof-of-concept development to ensure experiments address business-critical questions (not just technical curiosity).
  • Regulatory & IP Strategy: Identify regulatory requirements and intellectual property considerations that impact commercialization timelines and investment decisions.
  • Cross-BU Collaboration: Work across business units to ensure research initiatives align with broader market needs and avoid duplication of effort.
  • Financial Modeling: Build business cases and financial models to support investment decisions, including TAM/SAM analysis, ROI projections, and risk-adjusted returns.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Strategic Thinking with Commercial Pragmatism
  • Commercial Acumen and Business Case Development
  • Customer Empathy and Voice of Customer Discovery
  • Comfort with Ambiguity in Early-Stage Research
  • Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Solutions

Requirements:

  • 8-10 years in product strategy, product management, or business development in technology-driven organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in evaluating and commercializing early-stage technology or research.
  • Strong market analysis, customer discovery, and competitive intelligence skills.
  • Ability to assess technical feasibility at a conceptual level (without needing to do the engineering).
  • Excellent stakeholder management - ability to influence without authority across research, engineering, and commercial teams.
  • Experience building business cases and financial models for technology investments.

Preferred:

  • Background in engineering, science, or technical field (degree or equivalent experience).
  • Industry experience in data center infrastructure, thermal management, power systems, or energy efficiency.
  • Understanding of regulatory environments relevant to infrastructure technology.
  • Experience working with or within R&D organizations.
