Compliance Engineer

Location: Smithville, Tennessee 37166

Travel: Up to 20%


Position Overview

The AES Group Inc. is seeking an experienced Compliance Engineer to support one of our clients with product certification and regulatory compliance. This role will lead compliance activities from product design through production and market release, ensuring products meet applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, and certification requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead compliance activities for new and existing products.

  • Manage certifications and approvals, including UL, ETL, CSA, CE, UKCA, IEC, and FCC.

  • Coordinate with certification agencies, regulatory authorities, and third-party laboratories.

  • Interpret electrical safety, mechanical safety, EMC, environmental, and energy-efficiency standards.

  • Participate in product design reviews and identify compliance risks early.

  • Coordinate testing, samples, technical documentation, corrective actions, and follow-up evaluations.

  • Perform and document product safety risk assessments.

  • Maintain technical files, declarations of conformity, test reports, and certification records.

  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on products.

  • Support production changes, component substitutions, audits, inspections, and supplier transitions.

  • Provide compliance guidance and training to internal teams.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • At least 7 years of experience in product compliance, certification, or regulatory engineering.

  • Strong knowledge of North American and international product safety standards.

  • Experience working with certification bodies and testing laboratories.

  • Ability to interpret technical standards, regulations, and certification requirements.

  • Experience with electrical safety, mechanical safety, EMC, environmental, or energy-efficiency compliance.

  • Strong communication, documentation, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial equipment, appliances, industrial products, or electromechanical systems.

  • Knowledge of CE marking, LVD, EMC, and RoHS requirements.

  • Experience managing UL or equivalent certification programs.

  • Familiarity with international market-access requirements and quality systems.

  • Experience in manufacturing, laboratory, or product development environments.


Working Requirements

This role is primarily office-based with occasional work in laboratory and manufacturing settings. Candidates must be able to travel up to 20% and occasionally lift equipment or materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
