What does an email marketing program manager do?

An Email Marketing Program Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing email marketing campaigns to engage customers and drive business goals. They develop strategies, manage email lists, segment audiences, create content, and analyze campaign performance. Their role often involves collaborating with creative, sales, and analytics teams to ensure consistent messaging and effective targeting. Additionally, they monitor key metrics like open rates, click-through rates, and conversions to refine future campaigns.

What are some typical challenges an email marketing program manager faces when coordinating campaigns across multiple departments?

Email Marketing Program Managers often collaborate with creative, product, and analytics teams to launch successful campaigns. A common challenge is aligning timelines and priorities across these groups, especially when last-minute changes or approvals are needed. Balancing strategic planning with fast-paced execution requires strong communication and organizational skills. Building effective relationships and setting clear expectations with stakeholders can greatly help in overcoming these hurdles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an email marketing program manager, and why are they important?

Familiarity with email marketing platforms like Mailchimp or Salesforce Marketing Cloud, as well as certifications such as HubSpot Email Marketing, are typically required. Strong project management, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you coordinate cross-functional teams and optimize campaigns.
