Summary
Join HII Mission Technologies as a Marine Electrician and make an impact on the safety of our US Navy ships. As a Marine Electrician with our Elevator Support Unit (ESU), you will provide task support by install, operate, maintain maintenance repairs and technical support on equipment. This is a full-time position, locate in Chesapeake, VA. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country and abroad when not assigned to a local task.
What You Will Do
  • Support trades team by working on active class surface ships to perform alterations and installations for fleet modernization. Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as shipboard systems, integrated systems and related equipment/software at company, customer and/or field locations. Provide onsite training of customer support personnel when required. Perform quality inspections on finished product and provide onsite training of customer support personnel when required.
  • May provide direction and lead others.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time. Apply comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments.
  • Interface with customers, manage subcontractors, provide work direction and lead others. May manage one or more multiple jobs. Perform a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks including duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.

What You Must Have
  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must have complete comprehension of marine electrical systems, equipment, functions, and tools.
  • Must have working knowledge and experience with installing, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance and repairs of electrical systems and its associated equipment on marine vessels.
  • Must be able to read drawings and schematics.
  • Must be able to follow/enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
  • Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  • Must be able to travel when not assigned to local tasking.

Preferred: Bonus Points For
  • Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school, apprenticeship program or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.
  • Experience related to maintenance and repair of shipboard aircraft elevator, Advanced Weapons elevators, and/or ordnance handling equipment and vertical package conveyors preferred.
  • Candidate with a current or active DoD clearance preferred.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus.
  • Basic computer uses and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software a plus.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
