Job description

Role: Commercial Real Estate Attorney
Engagement Type: 3-4 months (potential to extend/convert)
Location: Remote

Elevate is partnering with its customer, a leading organization in the U.S. housing finance sector that supports liquidity and affordability in multifamily housing through capital markets execution and innovative lending solutions.
We are seeking an experienced attorney to provide legal support for a sophisticated commercial real estate and lending environment. This role requires a strong background in commercial contracts, transactional law, lender-related matters, and corporate transactions. The ideal candidate will be a practical business partner who can assess legal risks, provide strategic guidance, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal support to the Multifamily and Commercial Real Estate business teams.
  • Review, draft, negotiate, interpret, and advise on commercial contracts and related legal matters.
  • Analyze lender mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and related corporate transactions to identify and mitigate legal risks.
  • Advise business stakeholders on contractual rights, obligations, and operational requirements.
  • Support matters involving lender breaches, contract enforcement, remedies, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Deliver practical, business-focused legal guidance and recommendations to internal clients.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on strategic initiatives, partner-related matters, and regulatory developments.
  • Identify legal risks and develop solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Assist in evaluating and preserving organizational interests in commercial real estate and lending-related transactions.

Required Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active U.S. bar license in good standing.
  • Significant experience practicing law in commercial real estate, transactional, or financial services environments.
  • Strong experience reviewing, negotiating, interpreting, and enforcing commercial agreements.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, corporate transactions, or organizational restructuring matters.
  • Ability to evaluate legal and business risks and provide practical, actionable advice.
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities within a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with multifamily housing, commercial mortgage lending, or commercial real estate finance.
  • Prior in-house counsel experience.
  • Experience advising financial institutions, lenders, or financial services clients.
  • Familiarity with lender-related regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Experience handling lender breaches, enforcement actions, remedies, and contractual disputes.
  • Background supporting strategic partnerships and commercial real estate finance transactions.
