Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of the job is to repair, upgrade, modify, or verify sub components of a wide variety of complex automatic/logic controlled electronic or electro-mechanical equipment at a component level. Important duties include using advanced diagnostic techniques; improvising circuits or equipment to special needs; working independently on assigned projects; performing complex analysis of major malfunctions to the component level; performing calibrations traceable to the National Bureau of Standards. Important skills and abilities include setting up, operating and adjusting complex instrumentation; knowledge of analog, digital, and RF electronics; moderate circuit design abilities; high level of mechanical ability (i.e. considerable knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics and fluidics); and safe working procedures.
  • Individual must be able to work with minimum supervision in high pressure environment, subject to shifts in priorities.
  • Individual must be able to effectively interface with customers, suppliers, employees and management.
  • Individual must be able to accurately provide repair estimates, for both cost and time.
  • Individual must be able to document repair procedures and train others to perform said repairs.
  • Individual needs organizational skills necessary to maintain stocking levels of key components.
  • Candidate needs to have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to master database programs.
  • Individual must be able to lift 50+ pounds in the course of carrying out job duties and follow all safety procedures, including but limited to electrical, chemical and mechanical safety procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Individual must have BS degree in Electrical Engineering plus three to four years of directly related electro-mechanical experience. Individual must be able to effectively troubleshoot to the component level. Must be capable of interpreting electrical datasheets and related terminology. Previous experience as a Hardware Engineer in repairing is highly preferred. Individual must have proficient soldering/de-soldering skills including Surface Mount, Ball Grid Array, high density components. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
SPECIFIC SKILLS AND TARGETED EXPERIENCE:
High Power DC supply repair, testing and calibration ranging from 1kW to 80kW.
AC and DC Servo/Stepper motor rebuild and test.
Embedded systems hardware/firmware including CPLD, FPGA, MPU, etc.
Senior experience in AC and DC circuitry, advance test equipment, simulation software, and discrete semiconductor characteristics.
Labview, Python, Multi-Sim, or equivalent electrical design software.
Hardware programming language (JTAG, etc.)
