Job Description:
ITS Electronic Technician Assistant
Job Summary
Supports the installation, activation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of network and communications infrastructure across campus. Installs, updates, tests, supports, and documents copper, fiber, voice, data, and related communications systems in accordance with UK ITS and industry standards. Performs utility locates, supports communication closet buildouts and organization, and works in field environments that may include heights, ladders, lifts, manholes, vaults, tunnels, and other confined spaces. Responds to service incidents, analyzes and resolves basic voice and data issues, communicates work status and service impacts, and participates in on-call rotation and after-hours support as required.
Essential Functions
• Completes work orders in accordance with UK ITS and industry standards for installing, updating, testing, supporting, and documenting network and communications infrastructure.
• Installs, supports, labels, tests, and document, copper, fiber, voice, data, and related communications systems, including network cabling, communications closets, and network equipment deployments.
• Performs utility locates accurately and reliably, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protection of existing infrastructure.
• Responds to and troubleshoots voice and data incidents in a timely and effective manner, using diagnostic and testing tools to identify, document, and resolve service issues.
• Works safely in a variety of field environments, including heights using ladders and lifts, and confined spaces such as manholes, vaults, and tunnels.
• Maintains accurate daily documentation of work performed, materials used, test results, incident actions, and outcomes in accordance with established UK ITS guidelines.
• Communicates professionally with customers, PMO, contractors, team leads, supervisors, and other stakeholders regarding work status, project progress, outages, conflicts, and service impacts.
• Maintains departmental and University expectations for attendance, punctuality, time reporting, professional appearance, customer service, and adherence to safety and dress standards, including proper use of PPE.
• Participates in on-call rotation, responds to after-hours service requests, and operates department vehicles to travel to job sites, perform service work, and deliver equipment.
• Provides procedural instruction, guidance, and support to temporary staff as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement: Associate's degree preferred
Experience Requirement: 0-1 years of related experience preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures: Valid Kentucky driver's license required

Physical Demands
This position requires regular standing and walking while carrying objects up to 50 pounds; intermittent lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects up to 100 pounds; occasional lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects over 100 pounds; and the ability to work from ladders or lifts up to 15 feet or higher. The position requires reaching overhead, using hand tools, pushing and pulling cable, distinguishing wiring colors, traversing campus while carrying or moving equipment, and working in confined spaces for extended periods of time. The role also requires occasional sitting at a computer workstation using a computer, mouse, keyboard, and phone, along with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
