Electronics Manager information

What does an electronics manager do?

An Electronics Manager oversees the operations and maintenance of electronic systems and equipment within an organization or retail environment. Their responsibilities typically include managing a team of technicians or sales staff, ensuring the proper functioning of electronic devices, implementing safety protocols, and coordinating repairs or installations. They may also be involved in inventory management, budgeting, and providing technical support or training to employees. The role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to troubleshoot complex electronic issues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electronics manager, and why are they important?

To excel as an Electronics Manager, you typically need a background in electrical or electronic engineering, project management experience, and relevant industry knowledge. Familiarity with CAD design software, ERP systems, and certifications like PMP or Six Sigma are commonly required. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help in managing teams and coordinating cross-functional projects. These competencies ensure efficient project execution, high product quality, and effective team performance in a technology-driven environment.

How does an electronics manager typically collaborate with design and production teams to ensure project success?

An Electronics Manager often acts as a bridge between design engineers and production staff, coordinating project timelines, resolving technical issues, and ensuring product specifications are met. They facilitate regular meetings to align on project milestones, allocate resources efficiently, and address any design or manufacturing challenges as they arise. This collaborative approach helps maintain high quality standards and on-time delivery, while also providing opportunities for team members to learn from each other and improve processes. Effective communication and a hands-on leadership style are key to succeeding in this role.

What is the difference between Electronics Manager vs Electronics Engineer?

Job description

We are seeking a Manager of Power Electronics Engineering to lead a team of 10-15 electrical engineers developing next-generation inverter systems for grid applications.
This role combines technical leadership with team management. You will be responsible not only for guiding engineers, but for driving system-level design decisions and ensuring that our products perform reliably in the field.
You will own the development of power converter platforms and their integration into multi-megawatt systems (~5 MW scale), working across hardware, controls, and system integration disciplines.
Requirements
  • Lead and develop a team of 10-15 electrical engineers working on power converter design and integration
  • Drive the design and architecture of grid-connected inverter systems at the multi-megawatt scale
  • Ensure successful integration of inverter platforms into larger systems (BESS, solar plants, data centers)
  • Provide technical leadership in power electronics, including converter design, PCB implementation, controls, protection, and system-level electrical integration (fusing, cabling, grounding, and interconnects)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, and field engineering teams
  • Guide engineering tradeoffs with a focus on performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability
  • Lead design reviews, verification & validation efforts (DVT), and product release processes, ensuring designs are thoroughly tested, meet requirements, and perform reliably under real-world operating conditions
  • Mentor engineers and elevate the technical capabilities of the team

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (PhD a plus)
  • 8+ years of experience in power electronics or related field
  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams or technical groups
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Power converter design (DC/AC, DC/DC, inverter systems)
    • Medium-voltage and high-power applications
    • Grid-connected systems and standards
    • PCB design and layout considerations for high-power/high-frequency systems
    • Balance-of-system design including protection, cabling, grounding, and interconnects
  • Experience designing or integrating megawatt-scale power systems
  • Experience leading or overseeing design validation testing (DVT), system test plans, and failure/root-cause analysis
  • Solid understanding of system-level design, including controls, thermal, and protection considerations
  • Experience with applications such as energy storage, solar PV, or grid infrastructure
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on engineering mindset
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively across disciplines

Benefits
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Disability and life insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Tuition reimbursement
