Job description

The Operations Manager is a key executive leadership position responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations of the company. This role will drive operational excellence across both our direct industrial/commercial division and our subcontracting division. The OM will ensure efficient project execution, strong financial performance, high safety standards, and scalable growth while maintaining the highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, strategic leader with deep experience in the electrical contracting industry who can balance the unique demands of working directly with owners versus delivering work through General Contractors.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee all field operations, project management, estimating, and service departments for both direct-to-customer and subcontracted work.
  • Ensure consistent on-time, on-budget, and high-quality project delivery across all project types.
  • Standardize processes and best practices while allowing flexibility for the different requirements of direct clients vs. General Contractors.
  • Drive continuous improvement in productivity, labor efficiency, and resource utilization.
  • Ability and willingness to integrate other companies through acquisition

Project & Construction Management

  • Provide executive oversight on major projects, risk management, and issue resolution.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to maintain strong relationships with both end customers and General Contractors.
  • Monitor project financial performance (budget vs. actual, change orders, profitability) and implement corrective actions when needed.

Financial & Business Performance

  • Work closely with the President, General Manager, and other management to develop and manage the annual operating budget and operational KPIs.
  • Optimize cost control, labor margins, material procurement, and equipment utilization.
  • Identify opportunities to improve gross margins in both the direct and subcontracting segments.

Safety, Compliance & Quality

  • Champion a zero-incident safety culture and ensure full compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and all applicable regulations.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the company’s safety program, training, and accountability systems.
  • Uphold rigorous quality standards and customer satisfaction metrics.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing operations team (Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, Buyers, ect).
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative company culture.
  • Support recruitment, training, and career development of field and office personnel.

Strategic Growth

  • Collaborate with the President, General Manager, and other management on strategic planning and business development initiatives.
  • Evaluate and recommend opportunities for expansion, new service offerings, or geographic growth.
  • Support preconstruction efforts and client/GC relationship management at the executive level.

Vendor & Subcontractor Management

  • Oversee relationships with major suppliers, manufacturers, and specialty subcontractors.
  • Negotiate key vendor agreements to secure favorable pricing and terms.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in the electrical contracting industry.
  • Proven track record as an Operations Manager, General Manager, or COO in a similar electrical contractor environment.
  • Deep understanding of both direct-to-customer industrial/commercial work and subcontracting under General Contractors.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&L responsibility and improving project margins.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Electrical Engineering, Business, or related field (preferred).
  • Current Master Electrician license or equivalent technical credentials required.

Preferred:

  • Experience scaling operations in a growing electrical contracting company.
  • Demonstrated success in improving operational efficiency, safety performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Familiarity with construction management software Procore and other construction software's.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
