About the Role
The Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, commissioning, optimization, and reliability of electrical power, instrumentation, and control systems supporting mining and processing operations. This role ensures safe, reliable, and compliant operation of site electrical infrastructure while supporting capital projects, control system improvements, and ongoing operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Systems Engineering
  • Design, maintain, and support medium and lowvoltage power distribution systems.
  • Provide technical support for substations, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), switchgear, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Perform power system studies including load flow, shortcircuit, and arcflash analysis.
  • Support emergency power systems, backup generation, and critical power infrastructure.
  • Ensure electrical designs and installations comply with NEC, MSHA, and Nevada regulatory requirements.
Instrumentation & Control Systems
  • Support PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems across mining and processing facilities.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC systems (AllenBradley, Siemens preferred).
  • Support network communications between control systems and plant equipment.
  • Interpret and maintain P&IDs, loop diagrams, and electrical singleline diagrams.
Reliability & Technical Support
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on electrical, instrumentation, and control system failures.
  • Identify and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability and safety.
  • Support commissioning, startup, and optimization of new or modified electrical and control systems.
  • Proactively identify electrical and control system risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
Collaboration & Compliance
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Project teams to support ongoing plant performance.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and vendors as required.
  • Ensure all work aligns with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Requirements
  • Associate degree (A.A.) in Electrical / Instrumentation or Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3-5 years of electrical and instrumentation experience in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Handson experience supporting power distribution and control systems in operating facilities.
  • Strong PLC troubleshooting and programming experience.
  • Power system design and analysis.
  • Motor control systems and VFD configuration.
  • PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems.
  • Industrial network communications.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and electrical singleline diagrams.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and mitigating technical risks.
  • Strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Clear technical communication and collaboration with crossfunctional teams.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting broader team objectives.
  • Valid driver's license with ability to travel to and from project or site locations.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
