Job description

Eaton's Electrical Group is currently seeking an Sr. Electrical Design Engineer to join our team at our Santa Ana, CA facility.
This position will offer relocation within the United States.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $95,737 - $140,415.
Salary is based on candidate skills, experience, qualifications, and overall business and market considerations.
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the electrical design and development of multiple product lines, supporting the design, development, testing, and production of power distribution and monitoring/metering equipment. This role involves researching, evaluating, and documenting electrical designs and production methods while ensuring compliance with standards, codes, and engineering best practices throughout the product lifecycle.
What you'll do:
  • Develop comprehensive electrical designs, schematics, installation diagrams, one line diagrams, and test plans for power distribution and monitoring products, managing and updating designs from concept through production release.
  • Design electrical aspects of new products in accordance with approved engineering specifications, applicable standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Execute and document design verification and validation testing, ensuring all design files, test reports, and compliance documentation are maintained accurately within the engineering repository system.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Program Management to integrate electrical designs with manufacturing and production processes.
  • Support Senior Engineers with planning, testing, and Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) certification (UL, ETL, etc.) for new and existing products.
  • Apply working knowledge of NEC, UL, and other applicable safety and electrical codes to product designs and compliance activities.
  • Provide technical support to engineering teams, designers, technicians, and production personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and support issues encountered on the production floor.
  • Participate in and support engineering submittals, customer change requests, deviations, and documentation updates from initial request through implementation.
  • Recommend and implement design modifications to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost by following established quality management processes.
  • Prepare cost reduction and value engineering proposals for new and existing products, utilizing cost trade studies, design improvements, and Value Added / Value Engineering (VAVE) principles.
  • Support and cross train across additional product lines including UPS, PDU, RPP, STS, and Magnetics.
  • Create, review, and maintain accurate documentation including design concepts, schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, tooling drawings, and shop orders in coordination with Quality and Manufacturing functions.
  • Assist with prototype builds, pilot runs, first article inspections, and troubleshooting manufacturing and field related issues.

Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in electrical engineering
    OR
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in electrical engineering
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in power electronics and critical power systems, including:
    • UPS
    • PDU
    • RPP
    • STS
    • Magnetics
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Proven experience working in a manufacturing environment, including production support and implementation of customer driven and engineering changes.
  • Experience preparing electrical drawings including schematics, wiring diagrams, power flow diagrams, and one line diagrams
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, UL, and applicable electrical safety standards.
  • Experience supporting products through UL/NRTL certification and compliance testing.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, Autodesk Vault, or similar design tools.
