Job Description:

The Chief Engineer/Electrical Engineer be responsible for electrical system and subsystem architecture, analysis, schematic development, system diagrams, and component selection for the electronics associated with laser transmitters and testing equipment. In addition, this position will support the glass shop, melt equipment and other high-voltage electronics throughout the facility and perform technician duties on an as needed basis.

Essential Functions:

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficient knowledge of National Instruments Labview software with experience in programming
  • Experience designing and developing diode laser driver circuits, preferably >100A currents.
  • Proficient knowledge in laser design, critical performance parameters, test equipment and design verification.
  • Capable of Analog and Digital System Architecture for the electronics controlling diode lasers and photodetection circuitry.
  • Component selection to minimize electronics size and power draw while maximizing reliability.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team.
  • Ensure engineering practices align with industry standards and best practices.
  • Stay updated with the latest technologies and incorporate them into projects.

Quality Control:

  • Implement and maintain quality control processes.
  • Ensure all engineering work meets or exceeds company and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct technical reviews and audits to ensure project quality.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Product Development, Marketing, Sales) to align engineering efforts with business goals.
  • Communicate engineering progress and challenges to senior management.
  • Represent the engineering team in meetings and presentations.

Resource Management:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience, Electrical Engineering. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

    • Possess exceptional communication (both oral and written) and listening skills, with a strong orientation to details, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
    • Proven success in a fast paced development and manufacturing environment and possess a willingness to take ownership, accept accountability, and thrive under pressure.
    • Minimum of 2 years' experience in one or more of the following:

        • Programming in National Instruments Labview
        • Analog circuit design, laser circuitry and test/operation.
        • Digital circuit design.
        • Electro-optical integration activities.
        • Power supply design and EMI prevention
        • Troubleshooting electrical issues and resolve problems on a variety of high-voltage industrial equipment.
        • Military Specifications/Standards.
        • Performing technician level tasks and assignments.
        • Using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies and pulse generators.
        • Test and debug of analog and digital circuit boards and high-power electronics.
        • Must be able to effectively flow down system requirements into a system test plan.
        • Creating design review presentations to technical audiences including engineering, manufacturing personnel and senior management team members.
        • Willing and able to work extended hours, including weekend, when required to meet company objectives
