Job description

POSITION: Electrical Engineer I

REPORTS TO: Manager, Electric Department


JOB OBJECTIVE: Design, coordinate and test new electrical utility installations. Support existing generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure and provide future electrical assessments. Write specifications for electrical purchases and assist in the repair of electrical facilities when needed.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have a minimum of one (2) year of experience in power plant, transmission, and distribution electric system design and operation.

• Must have completed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam or be able to obtain within one year.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.

• Must have good communication skills to effectively work with department employees as well as internal and external customers.

• Must be able to assist when needed with restoration efforts in extreme weather conditions.

• Familiarity with equipment rated to 69kV, including outdoor substations and medium voltage switchgear.

• Knowledge of power generators operating on liquid and gaseous fuel, including reciprocating and combustion turbine prime movers.

• Knowledge of Protective relays, PLC, and SCADA control systems preferred. Proficient in NESC and NFPA codes and standards.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have a minimum of a BSEE degree from an ABET-accredited university

• PE license preferred or have the ability to obtain a Maryland PE license within a designated time frame.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have the physical capabilities to be actively involved in construction projects.

• Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.

• Must wear proper PPE as required.


MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

a) Provide electrical engineering support for projects involving power generation, transmission and distribution.

b) Design overhead and underground distribution systems 69KV and below:

• Equipment sizing

• Protection relaying and fuse coordination

• Prepare cost estimates

• Installation coordination and organization

• Provide electrical engineering support to Easton Utilities and the Town of Easton

c) Write specifications and procurement documents for electrical equipment. Review shop drawings and other electrical drawings for material purchases.

d) Provide engineering analysis such as fault current, voltage drop, load flow, arc flash, economic studies, planning studies and forecasting.

e) Design, specify and program PLC and SCADA control systems.

f) Assist in mapping the electric distribution system as needed.

g) Prepare and review one-line diagrams, AC and DC schemes, connection drawings, interconnection drawings and schematic drawings.

h) Available as needed to provide technical support during electrical outages and weather related emergencies.

i) Design indoor and outdoor lighting systems.

j) Enhance the Electric Department’s service and productivity by providing support to other employees and filling in and completing other duties as requested by the Electric Department Manager

k) Regular, reliable attendance is a requirement of this job.
