Position Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer serves as the lead Electrical Engineer on projects from concept through construction administration. Performs design efforts, develops construction documents, and delegates design tasks to junior engineers when possible. Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs as well as working through issues with contractors in the field.
Essential Functions:
• Drafts electrical construction drawings including details, plans, sections, and elevations in accordance with firm standards and guidelines.
• Performs engineering related calculations, including electrical load and energy calculations.
• Designs electrical power, lighting systems and fire alarm systems.
• Selects electrical equipment.
• Develops construction documents in AutoCAD and Revit.
• Reviews, organizes, and assembles all necessary documentation and drawings throughout the project and ensures an organized production flow.
• Recognizes, analyzes, and make timely, critical, and cost-effective decisions.
• Coordinates the efforts of staff and applicable consultants to design and draw in increasing detail. Understand code requirements, client commitments and contractual requirements.
• Administers project in construction phase including conformance to contract documents, solves problems, evaluates, and monitors change requests.
• Responds to client questions and concerns in a timely and thorough manner.
• Lead design discussions and carry design concept through to project drawings implementing sustainable strategies.
• Research and assess building performance and other regulations. Conduct other important engineering research as necessary.
• Contributes to design discussions and carry design concept through to project drawings.
• Maintains a positive, professional rapport with the client to assure a continued relationship for the company; provides client education, as required, throughout the project.
• Business development experience preferred, representing the firm and participates in marketing activities to secure projects as appropriate, including proposals and client presentations.
Position Requirements
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of 10 years' experience.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
• Design experience including power distribution, lighting/lighting controls, fire alarm systems and other special systems for a variety of building types.
• Medium voltage power distribution design experience preferred.
• Well versed in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office
• Working knowledge of International Building Code and National Electric Code.
