Your work environment at EXP
In this role, you will be part of a dynamic team of electrical engineers and designers for Science, Technology, and Healthcare MEP projects in the San Diego, California office.

  • Actively contribute to a positive and collaborative office culture.
  • Lead and mentor engineering and design staff, fostering growth in both technical and professional development.
  • Perform quality control reviews of electrical engineering deliverables, including drawings, RFIs, and submittals.
  • Serve in a responsible-charge capacity, ensuring work meets EXP's quality and design standards.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including the California Electrical Code (CEC), National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA Life Safety Code, HCAI, and DSA requirements.
  • Represent EXP during client meetings, project coordination meetings, and site visits, documenting findings and action items as needed.
  • Conduct field investigations, site verifications, and existing-condition assessments.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges while maintaining project schedules and budgets.
  • Prepare and execute electrical project work plans, ensuring successful delivery.
  • Advise clients on code compliance and engineering requirements during meetings, design charrettes, and project reviews.
  • Independently prepare technical studies, analyses, and reports for electrical systems.
  • Evaluate value engineering opportunities while maintaining design integrity and managing project risk.
  • Lead the development and integration of Basis of Design narratives into Design Development (DD) and Construction Documents (CD).
  • Demonstrate advanced expertise in lighting systems, normal and emergency power distribution, and fire alarm systems.

What your experience looks like
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years of electrical design experience in one or more of the following markets:
    • Healthcare
    • Life Sciences
    • Research & Development
    • Commercial and institutional building systems
  • Proficiency in Revit MEP.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Ability to travel locally as required.
  • Must be in or willing to relocate to the San Diego, California area. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.

The pay range for this role is $140,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
