Position Overview

Client are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with an active Professional Engineer (PE) license to join a multidisciplinary engineering team in Knoxville, TN.

This position is ideal for an engineer with strong experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, and other facility-based projects. The successful candidate will take ownership of electrical design assignments, support project delivery from concept through construction, and collaborate closely with engineers, designers, clients, contractors, and other disciplines.

The role offers an opportunity to work on diverse facility and infrastructure projects while taking on increasing technical responsibility and mentoring junior engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical design activities for small to mid-sized facility and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed electrical designs based on project requirements, applicable codes, standards, and design criteria.
  • Design and coordinate power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency power, and secondary electrical systems.
  • Prepare electrical calculations, studies, specifications, reports, drawings, and other technical deliverables.
  • Review project requirements and translate them into practical, code-compliant electrical designs.
  • Perform field investigations and collect site information required for design development.
  • Review equipment selections, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and other construction documents.
  • Provide construction administration and technical support throughout project execution.
  • Conduct site visits and observe construction activities to verify general conformance with design documents.
  • Respond to technical questions and assist with resolving field and construction-related issues.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in client meetings and help identify electrical infrastructure needs and project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, designers, and project team members.
  • Ensure all design deliverables meet applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and project specifications.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering — required.
  • 5–10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably involving building or facility design.
  • Demonstrated experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, or similar facilities.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and secondary electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and industry practices.
  • Experience coordinating electrical designs with multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage assignments independently while working effectively within a project team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with medium-voltage electrical system design.
  • Experience performing power system studies using SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, or comparable software.
  • Experience developing electrical construction specifications.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and 3D BIM modeling.
  • Experience with construction administration, field inspections, and contractor coordination.
  • Previous experience working on complex facility or infrastructure projects.

Candidates should be comfortable working in both office and construction-site environments.
