Job description

Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

Department: Product Development: Hardware

Reports To: Director of Hardware & Firmware Engineering

Location: Portland, Oregon

Salary: $130,000 - $140,000 annually

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Addium, Inc. does not sponsor employment visas now or in the future.

About Addium

Addium is a leading ag-tech company uniting science, sensors, and software to deliver end-to-end solutions in agriculture and food safety. Serving 34,000+ global clients with 60M+ daily sensor readings, we turn raw data into actionable insights that conserve resources, improve food safety, and drive measurable impact. Our mission is to make the invisible visible-transforming data into clarity, action, and automation. Trusted by partners like Mondelez, PepsiCo, Ferrero, and Green Thumb Industries, we stand for innovation, reliability, and a bold commitment to the future of agriculture.

Position Summary

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Addium, you design, develop, and validate complex electrical systems from concept through production, ensuring products meet technical, quality, and market requirements. You collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, firmware, embedded, mechanical, and systems engineering to deliver innovative, reliable solutions. Working with a high degree of independence, you drive projects through the EVT/DVT/PVT development process, support new product introductions with manufacturing partners, and champion engineering best practices and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work 90-100% independently, taking ownership of complex projects and ensuring successful completion with minimal supervision.
  • Lead system design efforts across analog/mixed-signal circuits, low-noise sensor front-ends, and power electronics; manage significant projects and oversee circuit design and component selection to meet product requirements.
  • Own EMC design-for-compliance work - filtering, grounding, and layout strategy to address common-mode and differential-mode noise rather than treating compliance as a late-stage test-and-fix step; partner with test labs to prepare products for CE and FCC certification.
  • Collaborate directly with firmware/embedded engineers on hardware-software interfaces, and with mechanical engineering on packaging and integration constraints.
  • Support wireless subsystem design and integration where applicable, including our Wirepas mesh fleet and emerging LoRa-based sensor architectures.
  • Partner with contract manufacturers on DFM/DFT reviews and drive designs through EVT, DVT, and PVT gates.
  • Assess the technical competence of EE candidates and less experienced engineers, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Actively participate in the development of other engineers, sharing expertise and fostering an environment of continuous learning.
  • Lead the design and development of new products, leveraging subject matter expertise in electrical engineering to create innovative solutions that successfully enter the market.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 8-10+ years of industry experience
  • Very strong PCB design ability, including analog/mixed-signal and power electronics layout.
  • Demonstrated experience designing for EMC compliance (CE, FCC) - not just test preparation, but proactive noise mitigation through circuit and layout design.
  • Working knowledge of relevant test equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer) for debugging and pre-compliance verification.
  • Familiarity with wireless sensor networking concepts (mesh or LPWAN architectures) a plus.
  • Expert engineering documentation - design history, requirements traceability, and reference-quality records maintained in [Confluence / Jira (HDEV) / PLM system] - that serves as a reference for less seasoned EEs.
  • Experience analyzing product testing needs, creating test processes, and performing tests.
  • Comfort working within a formal stage-gate NPI process (EVT/DVT/PVT) and collaborating directly with contract manufacturers on DFM/DFT.
  • Cross-divisional understanding of the scientific knowledge relating to successful product development.
  • A resource for industry application knowledge with scientific understanding of Addium products.
  • Skilled in Altium Designer, Altium 365, Altium Develop, and AI tools surrounding Altium and PCB design.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a company match (up to 4% after your first year)
  • Paid Time Off, Sick Leave, and 11 Paid Holidays
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities to support your growth
  • Clear paths for career advancement as you grow with us
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance for peace of mind
  • Health savings account and flexible spending account options
  • A collaborative, inclusive work environment with regular team-building activities and fun company events
