Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support and enhance manufacturing operations at a modern industrial facility in Shelbyville, IN. This position is responsible for providing engineering expertise, automation support, and project management for manufacturing equipment and facility systems. The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial electrical controls, PLC programming, automation systems, and continuous improvement while enjoying a hands-on role in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and manage electrical engineering projects from planning through implementation.
  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, operator interfaces, and AC/DC variable frequency drives.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot manufacturing automation systems, including PLC communications, middleware, SQL interfaces, and industrial networks.
  • Configure, test, and support automation instrumentation including servo drives, barcode/RFID readers, sensors, and distributed I/O.
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, equipment specifications, bid packages, and purchase requisitions.
  • Coordinate contractors, equipment vendors, project schedules, installations, and commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and provide technical support to maintenance and production teams.
  • Modify, test, and optimize manufacturing process equipment to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Assist with process data collection, automation reliability, and system integration efforts.
  • Support integration with ERP, MES, Historian, and other manufacturing information systems as needed.
  • Create and maintain electrical drawings, documentation, and engineering specifications.
  • Promote safe work practices while supporting continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures including PPE requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Journeyman Electrician certification preferred; Apprentice Electricians with relevant industrial experience will also be considered.
  • 5-7 years of experience in industrial electrical systems and automation controls.
  • Strong understanding of analog, digital, and logic circuits.
  • Experience installing, programming, and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and industrial power distribution systems.
  • Experience with PLC programming, HMI development, OPC communications, and SCADA systems.
  • Ability to install, commission, and support new or retrofitted automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience modifying and developing PLC logic for manufacturing applications.
  • Familiarity with integrated control systems and industrial communication platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other engineering software applications.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, maintenance, production, and vendor teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  • Experience with Historian systems and manufacturing data collection.
  • Knowledge of ERP system integration within manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting SQL databases or manufacturing middleware.
  • Background in continuous improvement or manufacturing process optimization.
Employment Type & Compensation
  • Full-Time | Direct Hire position
  • Compensation: $90,000 - $120,000 per year, based on experience
  • Application Period: This position will remain open until filled
Work Schedule
  • 1st Shift | Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (May vary on project)
  • Saturday overtime
