Job description

Here at Siemens, we take pride in enabling sustainable progress through technology. We do this through empowering customers by combining the real and digital worlds. Improving how we live, work, and move today and for the next generation! We know that the only way a business thrives is if our people are thriving. That's why we always put our people first. Our global, diverse team would be happy to support you and challenge you to grow in new ways. Who knows where our shared journey will take you?
Transform the everyday with us!
We are looking for an Embedded Systems Electrical Engineer. This position will be based in Peachtree Corners GA.
In this role, you will develop, test, and validate embedded firmware for advanced power electronics applications, including AC and DC solid-state breaker technologies. You will work closely with firmware, software, hardware, and test engineering teams to gather requirements, implement firmware functionality, troubleshoot hardware/software integration challenges, and support hands-on lab validation.
You'll make a difference by:
  • Writing, debugging, and optimizing embedded software in C/C++ for 32-bit microcontrollers and digital signal processors used in power electronics applications.
  • Configuring and initializing hardware peripherals such as PWM, ADC, SPI, and UART using vendor development environments including TI Code Composer Studio, Microchip MPLAB X, and STM32CubeIDE.
  • Implementing, testing, and debugging industrial, network, and IoT communication protocols, including CAN bus, Modbus TCP, and MQTT.
  • Developing bare-metal or RTOS-based firmware to control semiconductor-based hardware architectures, monitor system health, and support fault detection.
  • Conducting hands-on testing, validation, and troubleshooting of prototype boards in a power electronics laboratory environment using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital multimeters, programmable power supplies, and electronic loads.
  • Managing source code using Git version control and supporting structured development workflows, including branch management, build processes, and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Collaborating with firmware, software, hardware, and test engineering teams to transition prototypes into production-ready designs while documenting test procedures, communication interface specifications, build results, and components.

You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1+ year of working experience with a PhD OR 2+ years of experience with a Master's degree OR 3+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree with the following:
    • Embedded firmware development using C/C++ for microcontrollers or digital signal processors.
    • Microcontroller, DSP, peripheral configuration, and embedded control development experience.
    • Communication protocol experience with CAN bus, Modbus TCP, MQTT, industrial networking, or IoT-connected systems.
    • Hardware/software integration, circuit debugging, hardware verification, and laboratory validation experience.
    • Git version control experience and familiarity with modern development workflows, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience developing firmware or embedded systems for power electronics, high-voltage, high-current, or power-demanding applications.
  • Familiarity with UL software safety standards like UL 1998 or UL 60730.
  • Background with power converters, motor control applications, battery systems, EV charging hardware, or related energy conversion technologies.
  • Knowledge of solid-state switching devices such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, GaN, or SiC, as well as magnetic components.
  • Familiarity with PCB design software, including Altium Designer, and experience reviewing or troubleshooting prototype board designs.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, clear technical communication, and the ability to work collaboratively in a hands-on lab environment with changing priorities.
