How much do electrical engineer eit jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 7, 2026, the average yearly pay for electrical engineer eit in the United States is $111,091.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $83,000.00 and $132,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are typical projects or tasks an Electrical Engineer EIT can expect to work on in their first year?

As an Electrical Engineer EIT (Engineer-in-Training), you will likely be involved in supporting senior engineers with tasks such as drafting electrical schematics, assisting in the design and analysis of power distribution systems, and performing site visits for data collection or inspections. You'll gain experience working with industry-standard software, preparing documentation, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical engineers, architects, and project managers. These early responsibilities are designed to build your technical foundation and understanding of project lifecycles, while giving you opportunities to gradually take on more complex assignments.

What are Electrical Engineer EITs?

Electrical Engineer EITs are entry-level electrical engineers who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and hold the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation. This status is typically the first step toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). EITs work under the supervision of licensed engineers, assisting in the design, analysis, and implementation of electrical systems. Their responsibilities often include drafting plans, performing calculations, and supporting project development to gain the experience required for full licensure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Electrical Engineer EIT, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electrical Engineer EIT, you need a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools like MATLAB or PSpice, and industry standards such as NEC or IEEE is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication skills help set candidates apart. These skills ensure accurate design, regulatory compliance, and successful collaboration on engineering projects.

What is the difference between Electrical Engineer Eit vs Electrical Engineer?

AspectElectrical Engineer EitElectrical Engineer
CredentialsEIT certification, engineering degreeProfessional Engineer (PE) license, engineering degree
Work EnvironmentEntry-level, supervised projects, training rolesFull responsibilities, independent work, project management
Employer & Industry UsageConsulting firms, construction, manufacturingDesign firms, utilities, industrial sectors

The main difference between an Electrical Engineer Eit and an Electrical Engineer is experience and licensure. An EIT is typically an entry-level role for those who have recently graduated and are working towards their PE license, while an Electrical Engineer usually holds a PE license and has more independent responsibilities. Both roles often work in similar environments, but the Electrical Engineer has advanced qualifications and greater autonomy.

Job description

Electrical Design Engineer (EIT)

Harrison Gray Search has partnered with a leading electrical contractor to find a motivated Electrical Engineer (EIT) to join their growing team. This is a perfect opportunity for a professional with a few years of experience who is looking to transition from "learning the basics" to "owning the design" within a flexible and supportive work environment.

If you're looking for a role that offers exposure to innovative projects and a direct path to professional growth, we want to hear from you.

The Role at a Glance

Working directly with the Director of Engineering, you will play a vital role in the planning and technical design of diverse construction projects. This is a high-visibility position where you'll support everything from initial proposals and estimates to the final "as-built" drawings, ensuring every project is practical, efficient, and up to code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Support: Assist the Director of Engineering with project design, estimation, and construction efforts for both traditional and design/build projects.
  • Field Synergy: Ensure designs are not just theoretically sound but are practical for field installation and implementation.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the development of consistent engineering and BIM standards across the company.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare clear, accurate specifications and technical drawings that meet both client needs and regulatory standards.
  • Calculations: Perform necessary electrical calculations to establish benchmarks for construction and installation processes.
  • Collaborative Liaison: Participate in project meetings and interact with clients to ensure design intent is maintained throughout the construction phase.

What You Bring to the Table

We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented engineer who is ready to take the next step in their career.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Certification: Successfully passed the FE exam and currently holds an active EIT status.
  • Experience: 2โ€“4 years of experience in engineering or construction (preferably in a consulting or design capacity).
  • Tech Stack: Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit is a must. Experience with SKM or similar power analysis software is highly preferred.
  • Communication: Strong organizational skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members.

The Perks

  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Retirement: 401k plan with company matching.
  • Mobile Support: Vehicle/car allowance provided for travel between sites and offices.
  • Culture: A business-casual, flexible environment that values work-life balance and professional development.

Location & Environment

Our client is open to candidates in the Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, or Fayetteville regions.

  • Schedule: Standard 8 AM โ€“ 5 PM hours, with flexibility as project deadlines require.
  • Growth Path: Direct mentorship from senior leadership to help you progress toward your P.E. license.
