Job description


As a 'National ENR Top 25 General Contractor' that values its employees and fosters a positive and supportive culture, Whiting-Turner is seeking a qualified mechanical, electrical and plumbing manager for various commercial projects in a fast paced, entrepreneurial, team-based working environment.
Qualified candidates shall possess a 3 to 20+ years of experience in MEP management within construction or facilities management. This role required oversight of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing activities within a construction project and involves managing the MEP team, ensuring the proper installation and commissioning of MEP systems, coordinating with other project teams, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and quality standards.
The following experience and skill set are preferred:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• Professional certification in MEP engineering or project management (e.g., PE, PMP, LEED, CCP) is a plus.
• Experience in one or all disciplines of MEP such as mechanical, electrical, controls, plumbing, fire alarm, fire protection, special systems, commissioning.
• Strong understanding of MEP design, field installation, building systems, construction methods, and project management principles.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in MEP design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
• Knowledgeable with MEP codes and installation standards.
• Knowledge of energy-efficient systems and sustainable building practices.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledgeable in MEP estimating.
• Ability to lead an MEP team.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
• Coordinate MEP works across various phases of the project, from design to installation and commissioning.
• Liaise with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate MEP systems into the overall building design.
• Ensure the timely completion of MEP-related tasks within the project deadlines.
• Lead and manage a team of engineers and subcontractors.
• Delegate tasks and responsibilities to MEP team members, ensuring that the workload is balanced, and deadlines are met.
• Provide technical support and guidance to team members as needed.
• Review MEP designs and ensure they align with project specifications, building codes, and client requirements.
• Ensure the selection of appropriate materials and systems, considering cost, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
• Approve MEP shop drawings and coordinate design modifications with other teams.
• Manage the MEP project budget and ensure all MEP activities are completed within financial constraints.
• Monitor and control costs related to labor, materials, and equipment, and ensure effective resource allocation.

• Ensure all necessary permits and approvals are obtained.
• Address any issues or challenges that arise during the MEP installation and commissioning phases.
